Pigeon Shooting: My Red Letter Day

Recommended Posts

It taken me a while to get this video made as I haven't had time. However, this video is from the 27th September 2016, an outing on barley stubble.

When I arrived at the fields the trees just exploded with pigeons, so I had a feeling it was going to be a great day. The wind was very strong and I only had one option on where to put the hide and unfortunately it meant the wind was in my face. This made for great shooting as some of the birds were shot going over my head with the wind. At times the wind was so strong that it was difficult to keep the hide up.

The most action came after lunch when the pigeons just starting decoying much better.

This was my first ever solo red letter day on pigeons and I packed up as soon as I reached the milestone. I probably could have stayed on another couple of hours & got another 20 or 30, but I had enough fun by that stage.

Thanks for watching, make sure & stay tuned to the end for the bloopers section!!!

Don't know what I'm doing wrong , only hitting one out of five , at about 25/ 30 yards , and I'm getting pissed of with it

It's just as shame that nobody local , could show me the way forward , and where I'm going wrong

Though about joining a clay club !

Just pure fulstrating, and all the vids on u tube an't helped.

funny thing , you mentioned shooting clays, because of all my shooting i done more clays, than wild stuff. say on 50 clays i hit about 35, so just better than average shot, the prob with clays as soon there out of the trap there slowing down, where live stuff they will increasing , ok if a there dropping down to decoys , or you shoot the odd rabbit feeding, but most will be picking speed up, so you got to keep the gun moving, and shot just in front to hit them. i personally think shooting clays 1st, fecked me up  , would have been better to start on pigeons / ducks / partridge ,1st , i not to bad pheasants prob because there bigger target , i get not bad bag with them. keep at it mate

go for a more testing bird rather them that are scraping the barrel 25 yrd to close for my liking let the pattern open up abit . or get a board set up and do some pattern testing at different ranges with shot sizes and chokes

yea mate i would of thought your firing at them to close mate for using half choke . best is to get a board set up draw a circle on it about a foot in dia and stand at 30 yrd and you will find alot if tight shot in there at that range . you want a nice spread pattern

as long as theres not alot of pellets in the same spot when fired you should be fine its all about rught shell and distance even go to a shot size 7 . recently ive been dropping crows at around 30 yards with hushpower 410 and thats full choked and 24 g shell but have to amit it aint that easy compared to a 12gauge
