jok 3,474
I'll post one from further round the river showing Melrose over the Tweed . To be honest it is my favourite. The picture is from an artist called John Kennedy and is the view from his house called Bona Vista in the village of Gattonside. We owned the local pub, post office and general store with one or two houses. When I bought this picture I was the paper boy for the top side of the village. Also I was the local lad that didn't quite conform to the rules. There was a lovely old guy called Jimmy Clinkscale who taught me the art of taking a fish where one should'nt. My favourite memory was when a friend and I were in the Kings Arms when he turned up and said off we go. Buy a bottle of whisky. We went to the chain bridge pool where as instructed we had about half of Teachers (bottle) , I had to wade across the weir, (January flood) and launch myself in holding a tennis court net. Round in a half circle, 2 fish, and my mates turn. You quite soon realised why the whisky. Any rate on 3 fish for the hotel and not caught by the bailiffs. I know I'm going on a bit but it is a beautiful place. The same chap taught me dry fly fishing to a high level. We used split cane rods, 8'6" centre pin reel and floating line with tapered leaders which we made by the river. I always remember Jimmy sitting there, under an ash tree, smoking his pipe and drinking a bottle of Guinness, asking me what I was doing? Fishing. Well my lad, you won't be catching anything if you can't see anything using dry flies. That was a good lesson. Wish I had some pics of them days. I'll see what I can dig up.

jok 3,474
For your information the nearest Eildon is the Newstead Eildon, middle being the Melrose Eildon and the further most the Bowden Eildon. The area is full of Roman history with Trimontium being in Newstead. Boring I know but heho.
