Hob&Jill 258
Went out ferreting today, and done a HUGE hedge row. We werent really kitted out for such a big warren to be honest and only made a fraction of its potential Didnt have enough men, purse nets or ferrets. Still gave it out best go though. When we arrived I looked out down the field at the warren we were going to do and there was a good 20 rabbits out feeding, I thought eyyy oooopp gonna be in for a good bag today One side of the hedge was NT land and the other a horse livery yard. We didnt have any permisson on the horse side so I thought before I started I would go and ask if I can net up their side of the hedge. No problem and now can go back whenever I want, good result 90% of the holes were in the hedge, with some about 10-15 foot out from the hedge. The warrens go right along the length of the hedge, they go on forever (bare in mind we were standing 3/4 of the way down the hedge when pic was taken) Longnet set. We could only do the hedge in sections as my 50 yard longnet was no way near long enough. My bitch jumping longnet. She only cottened onto the fact that she cannot walk thought the net about 2 weeks ago Fine with it now though At this point we had been working it for about 3/4 of an hour with only a couple of rabbits hopping from hole to hole. Locator came out and had a scan around and got a reading of 5 foot in the field. It read 5 foot but I wasnt to worried as the mark 3 has tended to mark abit over for me. The digging was very easy as it is more or less sand at this spot. Broke through at about 4 foot to be bang ontop of the ferret with a rabbit in a stop end. This small jill really is a stayer she wont leave any rabbits alive. Very sandy soil. The Rabbit in the stop end. Poor sod. They started to bolt after a couple of hours. We ended that warren at 4 rabbits, it would have been stupid to carry on as it just wasnt working out effective with only the 2 ferrets working. Will be back soon with more ferrets, people and nets. It has easily the potential for 20+. We actually went on and did 2 more small warrens in some woodland and got 2 more rabbits out of them but was getting late and forgot to take pics of the final bag. So the final bag was 6 Rabbits. Quite a good day out by our standards but no way near filled the potential for it. ATB, H&J (Edit>> Video not working) SHOULD BE FINE NOW. Edited December 1, 2007 by Hob&Jill Quote Link to post
