chrismdd 787
I went out the week end , and had a bad day , the hide is basically the same as yours I put out 12 flocked decoys , facing the wind , in a horse shoe formation , and sat there for 6 hours , plenty of birds flying over and coming into land , but took off again befor landing , I was well fec off . And I'm not sure where I went wrong ! But il. Try again the weekend , it was the first time I've done this and I suppose a learning curve Atb Dave We often have them doing this as well where they just loop round (ideal if you have a shotgun but not much use with the airgun). If a group of five or more birds are coming in this nearly always happens as if they each have a small sense of something not right and therefore spook each other. However, when a single or pair come in they usually land especially if they come in low and fast from the sides. Also it is noticeable that often birds will come in to land in a nearby tree but then with time to take in the scene they will never then pop down to feed. So we will sometimes try to find a sitty tree or wires nearby where we can take them as well as on the ground. I first started with full bodied decoys but have now switched to the FUDs and I can't fault them (lightweight and can be put into various poses) all I've added is a bit more white to the neck bands and wing edges. Today I've just acquired a mechanical (pull-type) flapper to try next time in an effort to bring in birds that often fly on past on the distant horizon. Chris Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,568
I always freeze about 8 to 10 full pigeons and when decoying use them on cradles "defrosted". There is nothing better. Same with Magpies and crows . Quote Link to post
