The mag tube is normally crimped to stop you putting more than 2 shells in it, so even with an extension tube on, you could still only put 2 in it. It's an easy enough job for a gunsmith to remove the crimp.

You'd also have to get it registered as a Section 1. Might be easier to buy one that;'s already S1.

I've got a lovely Remington 870 practically new. So if I apply for a section 1 shotgun variation and get granted I can simply take this shotgun to a gunsmith and have an extension tube fitted.

Thanks again gents

Nice guns the 870. You'd have to get a slot on your FAC first, then take it to a gunsmith to take the crimp out and register it as a S1 shotgun. I think without the crimp it will be a 4+1 gun. Then you can buy whatever length extension tubes you want. They just screw on in place of the end cap with the relevant spring and clamp.

Thanks alot Walshie. Think I'll put in for section 1 shotgun and ill be happy with 4+1 thanks again

If you need more than the 2+1 then that sound sensible, Loooooong extension tubes holding loads of cartridges can significantly effect weight/balance!

Remember to keep the original tube though for swapping if you intend to shoot game birds, ducks or geese (any non pest species).

Many guns have a tube that's easily removable with a few tools. eg Sx3 mentioned above.
