FUJI 17,729
Dogs don't derive energy from carbs like us humans so pasta does little for them,I use it just because the dogs like it lol,it doesn't do them any harm so why not use it? Protein & Fats are the sources dogs get their energy from, veg don't do them any good either, its scientifically proven they have very few if any nutritional value to a dog..just my tuppence worth on the subject and as my dogs are crap I should maybe change my feeding regime ? 1 Quote Link to post
tote 870
I never measure anything, but I suppose a handful cooked, but depends on the size of the dog and how hard it is working as well as the breeding. I've found that heavily Saluki saturated lurchers do better with a decent amount of carb and slightly less protein than an out and out sprint machine.+1 I have only ever fed by eye by measuring it is the only way to know exact carb content that's why I asked. Had greyhounds and lurchers for 30 years and in all that time I've never weighed or measured anything in their food and as surprising as it may sound I've never had any issues with them regarding nutrition. To be totally honest with you I think there's too many folk trying to make a science out of feeding a dog. 3 Quote Link to post

Haven't fed veggies for a long time and my dogs don't seem to suffer. I don't suppose I will know until old age exactly if they have missed out on anything, but I don't think so. They get the odd tin of tomatoes for potassium and an occasional banana but not enough to contribute any great amount towards the total diet. And like you said above I feed carbs as a filler and because the dogs enjoy them more than anything. A bit of pasta or brown bread. Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
Lol I only asked what a recommended amount would be lads , chill out haha, I feed carcasses, lamb, beef n tripe and I add lard as well. But recently started adding pasta again to see if I can keep weight on my dog abit better. Dog gets 3 carcasses and 1.5lb of meat and I only know that cos they come in 1lb tubes. See how he goes with abit extra pasta mixed in with grub. Quote Link to post
