Best Pellet For My Rifle

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm trying to find the best pellet for my bsa ultra se 22 calibre so I'm gonna be doing a group test one day this week, the pellets I'm going to be testing are jsb exacts, air arms Diablo field and rws superfield, I'm going to clean and lube each brand of pellets the same and I'm going to make sure the rifle has the same amount of air for each brand, I just wanted to ask what is the best way of cleaning and re leading the barrel between brands, I have some cleaning pellets and some Napier gun oil, will this do? Many thanks

Keep it simple mate strait out of tin ,I dont bother cleaning barrel unless i see a noticeable difference to grouping, my ultra likes air Arms Field best, I do prefer using a softer heaver pellet find the heaver pellet suits all situations best. I fill to 200 bar and find that the second round of ten through crono gives most consistent results in velocity, to get best consistency in velocity best get gun regulated.

Falcon accuracy plus are very good in the SE Ultra 625 fps, flies faster and flatter than most pellets ,If its new always clean the barrel first with a Napier pull through kit, even if its not new still clean it , most barrels will have some protective oil or grease in them .

I only ever clean air rifle barrels once, to get the factory gunk out of them. And life's too short to wash & lube pellets, it makes no noticeable difference in my experience.

After that, for pellet testing, I put 20 of the new pellets downrange to condition the barrel to the new lead, then shoot for groups.

im of similar thinking but the top shooters weigh wash and lube and only use the best weight pellets in comps the highs and lows they only use for plinking.

If I clean my barrel it always takes a couple of mags until its bang on again.

If I were shooting HFT competitively with a 2000-quid Steyr rig, I'm sure I'd be washing and lubeing pellets, and probably polishing them individually with a chammy leather and weighing them on jewellers' scales...

But then I'm not, so I'm happy with 9mm groups at 33 yards/15mm at 45 yards with my 97K, using JSB Exact Heavies straight out of the tin for target shooting and dropping magpies, and I still have a life... :boogy:

Avoid cleaning the barrel if you are unsure of how best to do it Lewis or expensive damage usually follows. (New barrel!) Never cleaned one yet and my rifles perform superbly after years of a hardworking shooting life.

There are twi distinct camps on lubing pellets as you can see here. Some do it, some do not.

I have to say that, these days I tend to shoot my ammo straight out of the tin. ALL my rifles perform one-hole multiple shot groups at their zero ranges, just as well whether the pellets are lubed or not.

How much more accurate does that need to be for hunting?
