BGD 6,437
what I find with pure wheatens, pitbull, staffys etc people who never had them end up having them & ear they dog aggressive from other people or what they read on net etc & assume you got to keep um away from other dogs as pups so they tend to do so that's when you end up with dog aggression & a liability of a dog imo atb cbx Personally I let all my pitbull pups play together and with other dogs but there always comes a time when their natural instincts kick in and I have to start keeping them seperate no matter how well socialised they've been Of course you do get the odd one that never really "turns on" but that's the exception rather than the rule, IMO. The thing is with bull & wheaten lurchers is that before they given the chance to tune in to other dogs, you've turned em on to hunting, which if all goes well, should see em right for the rest of their lives. You see the same with pure bulls used on boar in the US, get them switched onto boar early enough and they'll run with a pack with no issues. 2 Quote Link to post
hjckcff 1,738
my lad can have issues with strange dogs. he is very well socialised but lives with three bitch terriers so I put it down to a dog thing. and personally think that's normal behaviour. he has always been a good guard dog. from day one. spanielsandhawks 466
I gues every dog is different, I have a halfx that's sound with other dogs and very laid back, but there has been a good few times where the other dog shows agreshion and my dog reacts all out with one thing on his mind. My halfx bitch was sound, had more than enough work then flicked a switch and hated terriers, she wouldn't think twice! She killed a pet dog of mine which she was brought up with, she even got to the point of nailing my mates dogs when out, couldn't take your eye off her, bitch no longer here for them reasons. My mate has a halfx bitch that wouldn't think twice about nailing another dog, cost him more than enough in vet bills (not for his bitch) of corse. Bear in mind these have all been we'll socialised from pups and had no lack of work. From my point of view they are not a cross for everyone, you have to keep an eye on them all the time and be very hard on them when needed. Just my experience with them. ATB 4 Quote Link to post

I have had my fair share of dealing with apbt and some have had a perfect attitude with other dogs and some the worst attitude and it had nothing to do with socialising. If Wheaton's are similar I imagine it would vary dog to dog rather than every dog with Wheaton in it's bloodlines is just a mad dog killer. I feel that if you get a dog with Wheaton or apbt there is a chance you could have an aggressive animal on your hands and be prepared to deal with that. Atb. 4 Quote Link to post
BGD 6,437
Do you see many Wheaton x's in Australia? Always fascinated by the more unusual x's you guys use on the pigs Quote Link to post
Silversnake 1,099
Honestly I have only ever seen one Wheaton in my life in a public off leash dog park. The dog was pure-bred from show lines and desexed, owned by an Englishman non hunter who only ever heard of the breed after he moved to Australia. I was confused by the whole scene... I would truly love to have access to some of the dogs you have over the ditch. Not many Wheaton's over here, especially working Wheaton's I haven't seen. Atvb.
