You can't maintain the quantity of running dog without the infusion of running dog .......

so after a period of time our lurchers turn into collies, bedlingtons, deerhounds ect?

No they don't turn into anything ... They will still be lurchers but over time will have less and less running dog in them .......

wheres it gone?

I have a line bred pup the line has been going for 37 years don't think any pure has been added and there's plenty of speed in them just beddy grey x beddy grey

When we are making statements that a 'pure' needs to be added or we will lose speed, it is worth remembering that the coursing dogs of today have had no pure influence on many of their lines since the

im only making a comment on basic greyhounds my friend .ive trained greyhounds for syndicates etc in the past and kept and worked lurchers for nearly fifty years .ive been known to breed a few decent

Strange statment, u can breed lurcher to lurcher forever.

If you only breed lurcher to lurcher after awhile they will slow down as the base breeds level out if you know what I mean so you need to add long dog blood to keep the speed up not the best wording but the only way I could think to word it

are u talking from experience?

Yes mate I had a 3rd generation Wheaton greyhound bull greyhound to slow for almost any game my nephew had the brother he was bait faster but still not enough speed also had a 4th generation bull greyhound whippet I could have run faster

pure bulls an wheatons aint that fast mate, could this explain?

It doesn't matter what way you look at it you need pure running dogs to keep producing lurchers no matter how selectively you breed .........

i dont agree, take alook at the coursing dog peds.

Erm I think you will find that coursing dogs are bred running dog to running dog mate ......

im finding it hard to understand what your saying aswell socks!! so what your saying is if collie x grey for example to collie x grey to collie x grey and so on and so forth for several generations, after 20 years of this breeding the running dog(greyhound) blood is so diluted they look and run more like collies and each generation will be slower????? why is it the grey side that disappears, why doesn't the collie blood in them dilute and they get faster?????? lol.
