New Member Wanting Opinions On Pcp Air Rifles

Recommended Posts

Thanks again, think the hw100 is an awesome rifle but out of my price range unfortunately and like I said would prefer to buy new as I want the peace of mind of being able to send it back if there is a problem in any way

A sorted second hand is better than new most of the time , had my ultra regged by XTX air 4+ years ago and its never missed a beat and that is using it about 4 or more times a week

Ditto to Mac`s advice. Paul save up a little longer mate and check out the HW 100 range - they are outstanding.   atb.

Hi everyone! I'm hoping you can help me decide which PCP air rifle I should buy? I have done a bit of research and I'm still at a bit of a loss, like most of you I started out with a .22 springer many

I originally last year was going to buy a new single shot ultra as this was the limit of my budget. I had sourced a the best possible retailer and then a friend noticed a secondhand pre-tamper S410 in .177 that came up on a private add in a Countrywide store. It included a 3-20x50 Hawke scope, bottle connector and guage, four mags and two tins of pellets. Got it for £275 and in the 12 months since it has been an extremely efficient bunny / pigeon basher and has only had one hiccup in that time. So keep a look out for the small ads as good deals do come along.

My s410 is a 2003 model yet it has no scratches or signs of screw heads that have been bodged by an amateur gunsmith. Generally the gun should have a good clean well cared for look. I would also insist on having a good few shots at range so may need to organise somewhere to try it out. In terms of whether it within the legal limit you may need to take it soon after purchase to gunsmith to have it tested and adjusted if necessary.

Mine was pushing out AA diablos (my choice of pellet) at 11.8 ft/lb, but when we put some Bisley magnums through it it became a firearm with over 12.3 ft/lb so it needed to be reduced a bit to make it legal.

If you do go for the s410 all you have to watch for is the barrel as the slightest knock when out and about ,ie, just clipping the silencer off a fence post will knock the barrel out of line and you will think some thing is wrong with the scopes but all you have to do is loosen the barrel band and the barrel will re-aline its self then tighten the band back up and jobs a good un

but iv not heard any other bad reports on them

hear is what you can make one look like when you get sorted with some extra cash this is my baby and in 22

Hi Paul if you want to shoulder a few rifles then try, Melbourne tackle and gun, Belper tackle and Go Dive Derby. Not sure where you are in Derbyshire but one should be close to you, they all sell used guns. Good luck.

I'm in matlock and have called by belper tackle didn't realize they had somewhere to try the guns out? What are the other two shops like ? Edited by Paul Spen

hi paul,

I myself have owned an aa s400(with the rowan converson) epic rifle!! had the same issue like mac said knocked it in the field, but very easy to fix even on the fly out in the field.

dont be put off by buying second hand at all, i bought a BSA R10 of a lad on here, and its perfect!! love it to bits. If your budget can stretch that far it has an 180ish shot count, but you will need a bootle to fill it at some point, or a pump( but there are so much hard work, trust me i cant afford a bottle and use one)

try all types of rifles out in the shop first, shoulder them or shoot them if allowd, choose the one you like the most or a couple then take a proper look at them so you can see what a brand new one is like. then if you do come across a second hand one you have more of an idea what to look for.
