IanB 0
IanB - I have yet to try the night vision on a HMR, I have mine on a 10/22 but there is always the problem of range estimation at night, the HMR would solve that. Thats the major downfall with nightvision, the HMR helps a lot..........although the LRF870 does away with any guessing Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Brickhill - I traded a hmr for the Hornet, meaning it to be dual purpose - foxes and longer range rabbits. However, partly due to advancing years, I've only shot two foxes in the last 6 months, both close enough to have been easly dispatched with a HMR. I find the Hornet pretty noisy for the areas where I shoot, I also like a bit of zeroing (target practice) and 50 or 60 rounds through the Hornet is not doing much for neighbour relations The Hornet is a super little rifle and I've got it doing about an inch at 150 yards, reloading is most interesting as well but I've got to the stage where I can't really justify it. I shoot .22lr as well and my Anshutz 1417 handles rabbit head shots to 100 yards but there is always the holdover or mildots to calculate at intermediate ranges. Popped into the gun shop this afternoon and am quite impressed with the quality of the Sako Quad, the Remington T bolt was nice as well but I'm not sure about that unconventional straight pull bolt. The CZ's are good workhorses but not the quality of the Sako. No Weirhauch or Anshutz to be seen. My hornet with the PES/MAE moderator on was quieter than any hmr I have heard. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
And I bet if you homeland for a hornet it's just as cheap as a hmr. More bang for your buck 1 Quote Link to post
Rimfireboy! 1,463
Best thing you can do is keep the hornet, and dont bother with the pop gun Lol..knew you'd say that. Hmr isn't my favourite, but, I've used mine to great effect on squirrels this past year. Taken loads of 'em. I've no doubt that the hornet offers a fair bit more as a vermin rifle and for that reason, I'm seriously thinking about adding a slot for one. CZ 527 of course..... 1 Quote Link to post
AThomas 32
I have a CZ 452 HMR,synthetic, with stainless barel, soon to be cerakoted. My first rim fire if truth be told. I wasn't really intending on buying it but I needed something in the gun shop, and it was on the shelf, and I had a slight moment of weakness,I'd just been paid, and it was cheap £250 with a Hawke scope and £20 for the moderator. Nearly unused condition I'd say. It seems to like remington & hornady 17gr,because that's all I can get really and I like it. If there's a rabbit in the cross hairs, it's game over, accurate to the point it's not even funny. I'm saving for a yukon photon, and like I said It's going to get cerakoted. Quote Link to post
kenj 131
I've had my CZ 452 HMR with a 16 inch barrel for about ten years and it is still knocking the rabbits down. I fixed the trigger and the woodwork, fitted a 3 x 12 Hawke scope, a Swift mod and narrowed the ammo down to Hornady 17 reds. I boresnake through once after every session, 1 shot, or 20. My last session on Friday got me 4 daylight rabbits in half an hour at ranges between 100 and 150 yards, allowing 2 inches hold over on the longer shot. No wind though. This was my blog. http://www.urbanfieldsportsman.com/index.php/cz-452-hmr-varmint-long-range-accuracy-cannot-be-eclipsed/ Quote Link to post
