terryd 8,925
Ok I have a concrete back yard a fenn trap and a rat or rats. I was thinking an wood tunnel along side the wall with bait either side of the trap but I obviously cant disguise the trap much are they likely to just go over it anyway ? Quote Link to post
terryd 8,925
mmm they have been going for blue bags I keep my veg peels in for the compost bin. Thats up on a plastic table by the wall maybe a box of some sorts with the trap in it on the table Quote Link to post
Matt 160
I never bury my Fenns or cover them. Rats and squirrels will happily climb over them. Quote Link to post

terryd 8,925
Got the bugger on cctv lol see exactly were he goes Quote Link to post
terryd 8,925
got him on cam again he must have jumped over it. Will try stick some thing either side so he has to clamber over it. The tunnel is slab leaning again a wall so quite high. Nothing else can pass through mind bit of clutter each end. Very bloody punctual some body should hire him Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Be aware mate that if the tunnel isn't snug the rat may be thrown clear of the jaws. You could always put a few shovelfuls of soil down, leave it a few days and set the Fenn in that. Personally I'd just get a Victor rat trap or a Snap E, put it in a little wooden box with peanut butter on the plate. 1 Quote Link to post
Matt 160
The tunnel must have a roof for it to work properly. Fenns need a surface to work against Quote Link to post

Lol.......erm, erm you got me. For rats in sheds I never had a roof over the trap. Caught plenty and missed plenty too. Moving the trap after a few catches seemed to keep it catching. Never......lol Quote Link to post

I've had a few thrown clear, and I don't trap 'that' many rats with Fenns when compared to some I bet. Obviously this speaks volumes about my trapping skills....lol. 1 Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Well lads, you may have got away with it... I've been a professional pest controller for 25 years, and have used Fenns for 35+ years. The bloke who told me that Fenns need a roof to work against was Mr Alan Fenn, who designed the trap. Do as you please, but just because you think you know better doesn't always mean you do Quote Link to post

Certainly helps in a stone dyke for stoats. Just find it funny when someone 'never' misses lol Merry Xmas. Quote Link to post
