Rapid Squirrel!!!

Recommended Posts

Went down to do a bit of roost shooting given the sudden decrease in wind speed overnight. Decided to take the Rapid out for a nice walk. Checked zero and found she was high and left, a couple of clicks down and right saw it bang on the centre of the cross at 25 metres.

Stalking round I saw a flash of grey on the track near the field. The big flick of grey up confirmed it was no bunny, but a tree rat! Careful aim, pull, thwack, a Crosman Premier sleeping pellet struck home and then a climb over the barbed wire fence to retrieve the fallen tree rat!

Into the woods and waited. One came in and sat at the top of the furthest tree. Aim, pull, another Crosman Premier sent a big pigeon to the floor. Walking to pick it up and another pair landed in a tree. Thwack, another one down. Balls, in the middle of the permissions biggest bramble. No chance of getting that. First pigeon retrieved. Back to the firs and wait. The flock came in in one blasted lump. Another one was shot. So three dead and 2 retrieved. A couple of stragglers could not believe they got there before the big flock, well I was not going to tell them they did not. Another Crosman Pellet flew from the Rapid to make contact and then there were three retrieved.

As night closed her cloak of darkness over I walked up the right hand edge, saw one out on a limb. Shot it, straight in the ditch of doom, brambles, barbed wire and stagnant water. So I left it! So 5 down, three retrieved and a nice squirrel to make a difference in the pie!
