bhawk 64
I always take between 3-4, 2 ferrets do most warrens fine, the other two are backups and also for when the first pair get tired Quote Link to post
TOMO 29,150
Most adult ferrets will work all day ,,provided there full grown and fit.... As far as how many to take with you,,that really depends on how big your warrens are,,,,,big long banks with maybe a hundred or more holes,,,will take a good few ferrets,,maybe half a dozen ferrets,,perhaps more.. 1 Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
All depends on the ground and graft you expect to do, I usually take a minimum of 3, knowing that the other lad(s) will have a few.. Nice to have fresh ferrets for them big warrens, and lots of them. Nice user name, love the stuff I do.. Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
As has already been said depends on the land/buries.However i wouldn't leave home without at least 4 ferrets and my partner would bring the same so 8 for an average day.I try to rotate em throughout the day however they all have specific rolls so depends on the day really!! 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,739
I well remember the auld days,...getting on the train to Rowlands Castle.. We used to leave the Ghetto at first light , bound for the Stansted Estate... Each of us carried a small bitch ferret in a canvas bag, secreted in the lining of our coats... What a sight,..two dark haired young lads,..long coats,.gypsy dicklers around our necks. We must have looked reet fecking suspicious As we got off the train, the aged Station Master would often kite us, and verminous rat that he was,..get straight on the phone to inform the Head Keeper of our arrival. However, we knew the score,..we knew where to go,... and took evasive action..... It seems a bit quaint nowadays,.but our meagre bag of two or three rabbits each,..was all we ever wanted..Them tiny jills rumbled the conies out of the small six holers and our soft hemp nets soon hanked them up. So many thousands of rabbits, have hit my nets over these past fifty years,..I still enjoy the hunt,..day or night,..but for me,..nothing ever really matches,.. those wonderful days..
