socks 32,253
Why use a lower powered fenn when you have a solway? Imbra's are lovely, but hard, and expensive, to find. I've only got about a dozen.....fitted some new springs to them and they're sweet as a nut. I have about 50 imbras that have all been revamped by a lad off here and they are very effective .... I don't use mk4's on squirrels I use a kania or a mk6 and they kill instantly ....... 1 Quote Link to post

The Kania is evil, I have never had a survivor, but it is hardly an equal comparison to a MkIV, either power or price! Truth be known I use live trap or Kania for virtually all squirrel work these days! Edited November 20, 2014 by Deker 1 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
There's going to be a spring trap on the market soon that will be cheaper and just as effective as the kania mate. it also has it's own built in cubby so can be sited almost anywhere. Quote Link to post
nod 285
Any other information on the trap darcy, pm if you could please Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,910
Darcy, did you perform the same experiment with the Solway? Or are you just taking the fairly logical assumption that a more powerful trap will reduce what you found? I'd certainly agree with you re mk4s and squirrels. Also, I don't believe it is written in law to check spring traps every 24hrs, unless trapping rabbits.... ??? I didn't do that experiment mate. but i would assume I would have had the same results....I think the MK4 is underpowered, whatever type. Today I only really use the MK6 unless i specifically have to use a smaller trap. It's only my opinion though.... I don't disagree with you matey. Just curious. I like the mk4 for rats but as a general purpose tunnel trap id certainly favour the mk6. In my limited experience anyway. Quote Link to post
heritage 202
I use mk6 fenn's myself for rabbits but only on certain areas where I feel there is a risk of trap theft, if your looking for the most effective rabbit traps then you really need look no further than the juby or the imbra. Of the two, the imbra is definitely king,...... Simple. As regards the killing power of the Fenn and other similar traps the problems aren't all down to undered powered springs,... A lot of the blame is to do with the actual shape / design and even now I reach for a pile of fenn rabbit's before the mk6's as I feel there performance appears to be much better.... In general, all the traps on the stao have there uses and its up to us to do the best we can with what we've got....the mk6 fenn , I feel is at its best when targeting young , jeuvanile rabbits. Lol how can you be nervous for your fingers when setting the kania they are nowhere near the kill area ... Fenns are more likely to get you than a kania ........ 1 Quote Link to post

But less likely to remove a finger if they do...I just don't like traps, I have used the Kania for about 6, maybe 7 years, that spring and bar still makes me nervous! Quote Link to post
