Any Tips On Body Grip Traps?!

Recommended Posts

I've always used fenn traps with plenty of success, but last year bought some body grip traps (110's). All I've caught in them is one rat, a young moorhen and my bloody fingers!

They have been sited in tunnels on runs and waters edges where fenns in the same area are catching. So I'm at a loss as to where I am going wrong. Any tips would be great fully received. they get one last chance before they go to the back of the shed with the monarch cage traps!

Cheers,

Trench

I have equal success with both fenns, and BG! Now I'm using them in baited pockets for mink, but catch loads of rats with them too!

I find bending the trigger wires into a circular shape is the job, and increases catch rates significantly!

Even catch mice from time to time with them!

Eddie I do similar to you, but my trigger wires are much longer and i have some 22 gauge brass wire stretched taut between them. The animals actually trip the trap by standing on the wire i often think......in single ended cubbys i really like the coni-pans for head strike kills.

Lot of lads in the USA use something similar to what your using i think, except their using fishing line as a trip wire!

Ive got some 110`s and plan to catch rats, would you smear peanut butter on the trap?.

I have some proper cubbies to use them with, should I place on runs with both ends open or keep one end closed and bait behind the trap

Purchased from Fourteenacre the "basic body grip" dvd, but does not help much

Thanks

I wouldn't smear anything on the trap...there's no advantage to that. You want the rat to travel through the BG setting it off. However, IMO the best method (if you have to use BG's for rats) is a pan to fit onto the triggers, bend it over toward the direction in which you want the rat to approach from in a single ended cubby. But thats just MO.

Going to try some fenns Mk 4 in home made tunnels as there are dogs about from time to time in the particular barn, just thought i would try BG as well, not sure what you mean by "a pan to fit the triggers"??

Have been baiting this barn, with moderate success. However there are many competing food sources, a lot of wheat lying around, in which the farmer seems unwilling to tidy. So fancy trying traps. Is there a good all round book that anyone recommends? or simply try and if fails modify?

Thanks in advance
