Born Hunter 17,965
It's not about interests fella. So much of what we have today technologically was developed on the back of purist research which at the time had no foreseeable technological application. So how can I really give you an example of a technology that will be developed from this research? Applied research is great, but it's largely based on the discoveries of purist research..... and as I have said purist research is done purely for the advancement of our knowledge with no foreseeable tech application. The day a businessman or philanthropist controls science is the day science dies!
Born Hunter 17,965
NASA is indeed funded by government...... the US government! LOL. So what's your beef? A government with great foresight!
frazdog 252
Yeah lad but most of that experimental stuff was eartbound an could be applicated, where as this is in outer space with no real application for earth! Correct me if im wrong!
Born Hunter 17,965
So understanding the solar system, galaxy, astrophysics, cosmology, the Universe is in no way beneficial to our survival on Earth? Not like anything 'out there' could effect us here eh...... no wait!
frazdog 252
Haha yeah nasa sneaky buggers, read that they were not going to get funded few years back an then they found a rock they said was from another planet an had a organism in it. Then the bizillion dollars was transfered to nasa account, only to find out later the rock was found in south pole ten years before,an was stored away. Hey but thanks for the money lol
frazdog 252
It hasnt helped so far,or could you give me eg please?lol
Born Hunter 17,965
That's neither here nor there.... You seem terrified that there is an organisation that in part is looking for extra-terrestrial life. So much so you ignore all of their other research unless you think it could be some conspiracy to find aliens.
Born Hunter 17,965
It wouldn't make the slightest difference if I gave you a hundred examples, it wouldn't be enough for you. So, do you accept that researching the extra terrestrial 'world' is of benefit to us? Based on the fact that purist research is essential to science and that there are many things beyond our Earth that can and do effect our lives here.
frazdog 252
Nah lad doesnt bother me cause i dont think theres any other life anywere, there wasting there time imo an at same time wasting billions, just see no cause for it all or are they looking for other life bh,cause i no theyve sent radio signal but wont get returned info for 50000 years, now thats stupid lol
frazdog 252
I understand that it affects us but we can find that out frm here instead of sending billion dollar space junk. I just think that the money could be better spent lad

Born Hunter 17,965
Part of NASA research is investigating the potential for alien life, PART OF IT. The Voyager missions are not a part of that, certainly not a significant financial part anyway. There mission is to study the solar system and now beyond it. They're not looking for life. The research is as beneficial to us as any purist research. Which in turn is necessary for applied research.
Born Hunter 17,965
Well you would do and people like you always do, until the data gathered is one day used in conjunction with other research to make a real significant difference.
