I'm sure this will start a war lol, both are very good calibres but hmr is flatter shooting ( less drop ) and holds its punch at further ranges but get what you want out of the two.....just do your homework on pros or con's.

I asked my feo a few years back and his advice was .22wmr has too much drop compared to a hmr so don't bother.

That said hmr is a bugger in the wind so...

Would be interesting to see how the .17 wsm gets on but then I have the feeling that will be closer to the hornet calibres performance wise.

ive just started to use wmr having owned hmr in the past (i didnt really get along with it tbh).

for me, having used just one box of 30gn jhp's (got some vmax to play with next) I can see it will have its place in the cabinet next to my (prefered) .22lr for when i want to stretch the range out a bit or if there is the chance i might need to sort out a fox or two.

without stretching things too far (yet) its a good, solid 150yd rifle all day long. the ability to run heavier bullets for fox is a big advantage, i realise hmr is now acceptable on fox in a lot of counties but i'd feel more confident of a clean kill with the wmr as it has a little bit more grunt to compensate for a shot that isnt perfect.

both have a place, but if i was looking for an out and out vermin gun i'd still grab the lr before anything else as its limitations are far outweighed by its abilities.

As a non user (but previous owner) of WMR & HMR.

Ammo is way too expensive, nowhere near enough 'zip' compared to any centrefire, can't be reloaded.

So there you are, HMR is a quantum leap from a 12 ft/lb airgun, but it's no 22.250, & that's a fact.

22WMR the rifles are cheap (guess why?).

At the end of the day if you can get a 22LR granted you'll also get a 17HMR/22WMR as well (remember

to put a moderator on your fac application, even if you don't want one) try them for yourself

and decide.
