zx10mike 137
did this a couple of years ago, ditched the hmr for a 17 hornet.makes all the sense in the world, not much sound difference lots more range.sadly at the time savage was the only rifle available and did not compare to anschutz build quality.my dream rifle for rabbits would be an anschutz thumbhole in 17 hornet. Cedric 132
Celtic - it's a very satisfying rifle to shoot, a bit more 'whoomph' than the HMR and this reloading business is quite adictive! trouble is, the more I load the more I shoot! Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
But whats the point? Same curve as a 55 grain 223, but a lighter round, why not just get a 223? I couldn't disagree for fox, .223 all the time if you're going to be shooting at any distance. However, I think the OP is looking for an "all round gun", for which purpose the .223 would be a bit too powerful and expensive to run. Edited October 4, 2014 by Alsone Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Yes well its still too much gun for shoulder shooting on bunnies but if it bucks the wind over the 100-150 mark then I'd be inclined. Truth is its still a calibre designed not with us in mind (UK) I could see this being open to negative responses but I think this would be a great calibre to own where varminting is a lot more luxurious in choice. Let's face it..rabbits and fox are worlds apart and although both hmr and the hornets loose out in one way or another they do both get the job done. Quote Link to post
