Some Advice Please, Anschutz 1517

Recommended Posts

Pal of mine is having a problem with his 1517 gun/bolt, I have not seen it yet, he will be bringing it over in the next few days for me to take a look at, any ideas appreciated?

His words.......not sure I'm following it, but its the best I have on the problem!

"It appears that the top of the firing pin(?) doesn’t pop-up when the bolt is in place; if I take the bolt out and manually press it down it will then pop up again and the mechanism works and would fire one round but the problem then occurs again. Any thoughts?"

Difficult to know from the wording what the problem is. Is it a Mauser-style bolt?

If he means that the strike face of the firing pin is not visible at the bolt face, then it sounds like either gunk inside the bolt or a broken firing pin spring preventing the pin from advancing. Could also be that the spring has somehow slipped out of alignment. A lot would depend on the internal construction of the bolt, so I guess you'll have to take it apart to find out.

Good luck!

Don't know Anschutz as never owned one, but had a similar 'symptom' on my Sako Finnfire Varmint.

The firing pin was broken, but still retained inside the bolt body, when the mechanism cocked it left the front

part of the firing pin behind, I had no idea about this as it worked ok (plus I don't us my 22rf much).

Anyway it worked ok until I dry fired it and the broken bit of pin flew off into the barrel and disappeared, after

of course it wouldn't fire and that's when I found out what was wrong. could have been like it for ages or just

on the day.

£27.00 fitted for a new pin, which also came with a new bolt mainspring, not bad, well done Gunroom Ivybridge

Devon.

Sounds like the above in ratbuster's post. Be careful when you strip it, some model 64 bolts come with a front return spring on the shaft of the pin some don't. I spent ages searching the floor for a small spring, followed by an even longer search on the web for a parts page only to find mine did not have one to start with on my 1417.

Well all I was going to suggest has already been said but at least a bolt is easy enough to remove whether or not its easy to replace cost wise and I doubt the bolts are easy to disassemble on the civilian market without the right tools is another thing.
