R.A.W 1,987
My little girl has been nagging at me to come hunting so at the age of Four I gave in. I was out early on with the hounds and after a cuppa and a bite to eat the next part of the day started. She love's to come for a walk with the dogs but we've never taken a ferret and nets and been intent on securing a bunny. I had a particular place in mind that I normally visit this time of year .A small ivy covered chestnut copse was the order of the day. I still ended up carry all the kit and a little girl that doesn't like brambles about the place. I was a happy man When the bitch marked and even I was surprised at how quite my little girl was after I netted up and popped the ferret in. The first one hit the net fast , it may have been a poorly made net or the net setter but it managed to wriggle to freedom. ( probably the latter ). I did take my eyes off the rabbit in the net to see a little girls eyes open with excitement with the sudden commotion. The disappointment must have shown on my face because a tiny voice whispered " Don't worwe Dad we'll find another one". Such kind words are not normally afforded in such a circumstances by my other ferreting partner . Luckily for me another was on the move and hit a net and stayed firm until I got there. I made a conscious decision turn my back while I Chinned the cooney for fear of rep remand for hurting a fluffy bunny and slipped it in a carry bag, net and all. " Good one dad" said my new biggest fan that was sat on a ferret box with a Cheshire cat grin. Things slowed down after that so I took a seat by my girl and waited with no show from mammy ferret as she is Known now. I pulled the box out and switch it on and to search only to be told off for making a beeping noise . I had to explain the situation to a four year old and she took it well and even offered to dig . With Only 2 foot showing on the box I managed it alone and retrieved both parties from the ground. I picked up and thought it would be wise to keep things short and sweet , funnily enough I had to use sweets to bribe her out of the wood . She wanted to carry on but I'd rather we made for home while she enjoyed herself. The problem Is I think she'll want to come every time I've got a mammy ferret in tow 5 Quote Link to post
