chrismdd 787
Do the family food shop at ASDA or go shooting? Well it had to be shooting, the kids can eat bread for tea!Drove out to the permission at just before 8pm and first had a quick look up in the pea field, there is only one well eaten patch where the rabbits can be seen, a few were out but spooked easily so I'll try that later on.Went back over to the grass field and had a check where the rabbits were out before opening the noisy gate and deciding on a new ambush point out in the field in a strip of uncut grass:Settled down and awaited the bunnies. After about 20 minutes the first customer came bounding out at 25 yds, a nice easy clean shot from my mini-sticks and the first was in the bag. Left him where he was and waited. Quarter of an hour passed and I heard the distinctive call of a woodie, looked to my left through the long grass and spotted it up on the wires. It was around 40 yds away at about 40 degrees, so decided on a slight holdover without the sticks, it dropped instantly a clean neck shot. Over the next hour I had three more rabbits with the best at 48 yds with a one mildot holdover and all were clean single head shots off the sticks. The light was fading now and so decided to drop the bag off in the landy and then have a go up on that low patch in the pea field. Set up my second ambush in amongst the nearest cover:Had to wait about half an hour before the first rabbit arrived which came out only 10 yds to my left. It just sat there thumping its back legs on the ground as it called to others. I must have lay there for about a good ten minutes before I decided to try and ease the rifle round, but with the still evening it easily sensed me and hopped back into the hedge. However, back to the right I spotted another at 20 yds and dropped this one cleanly. The light was rapidly fading and I was having difficulty picking out any detail through the scope, but persevering I managed another two over the next half an hour both within five yards of the first one:It was now too dark to use the scope so after admiring the beautiful full moon I thought I'd try and atmospheric picture with my basic camera:Then back home to prepare the rabbits and woodie.Chris Quote Link to post

David.evans 5,323
Well done Chris , Great write up , great photos , I do like your mini sticks IMO I don't like shooting when full moon is out , but I do - I find it hard to sneak about my perm as these not much cover,I think I'll take your tactics on board , and hold up a bit more!
