Andrew Beirne 78
I became interested in falconry around 4 months ago after watching fieldsports britian when Roy Lupton was on it with a goshawk and I watched all the videos they have on the sport,I found a man literally five minutes down the road who has a goshawk and I approached him and grease more than accomadating and showed ke the goshawk who is in moult and he said I can come hunting with him in the season Quote Link to post

Won't be for a while yet though I hope lol And dont forget you need to try a redtail yet pal and dont forget, you like your lamping, dont think you will be doing a lot of lamping with a gos (not saying it cant be done) do you really want to be restricted to daytime flying? charlie caller 3,654
Goshawks pick up Lamping just as easy as any other hawk I am not saying they dont! What I am saying though, is that with the speed a gos goes at the likelihood of death by fence etc has got to be a lot greater than with a harris or redtail, but having said that its always a risk with any bird, and If I had a gos I would probably give it a go, but thats just me. Yep that's definitely a big risk & like you say, a greater risk of death with a gos, I avoided fenced areas at night, which left me severely limited to where I could actually fly....... But.......during the day, I flew all kinds of places & it was impossible to avoid all hazards.........the tendency for tunnel vision in those birds is electrifying! For example I once slipped on a rabbit that made it through a hole in the corrugated cladding of a barn, a little above this was another hole about 6" wide by 2 foot long, the gos took this hole by flipping on his side, pursuing the rabbit out the front entrance of the barn, through a barbed wire fence, then under a fallen tree, only to catch the rabbit at the entrance of a warren.........heart stopping stuff :-) Getting a goshawk is perhaps not a long term investment.......but it's an exhilarating one...... 1 Quote Link to post
