JDHUNTING 1,817
Id have to watch it through again to be sure but some of the figjts on sat seemed to be stopped a little early for me, also froch groves first fight and a few others ive seen recently and it got me thinking of all the great to and fro fights of yesteryear that would be stopped with this modern reffing and to me itll spoil boxing completely if it carries on, i understand about protecting fighters but i think doing something about the weight cutting would help safety more than diving in quick. People talk bout ali v foreman hagler hearns, many duran fights but none of these really possible anymore, anyhow wanted to see what others thought?

JDHUNTING 1,817
Ye i no theres still some wars im thinking more the big hype ppv cards its as if the refs get the nod to stop if in any doubt specially over here. Im prob behind the times id like to see 21 rnds smaller gloves and the ref judging if he CAN carry on not should he, thats should be down to tje fighter and his corner imo. Again id have to watch it over but didnt a young lad get stopped wi a kidney shot even though he was up and ready at 8?
neems 2,406
All too PC imo. I know it's a tragedy when it goes too far and someone gets seriously injured or worse, but how far do we need to go? early stoppages wreck a lot of fights imo. also agree with the gloves being too big,8 oz gloves now are different too 8 oz gloves of the old days, bigger more shock proof gloves aren't safer, they end up in more damage being taken and lots of skills being neglected. gnasher16 31,602
Better too early than too late......but there has been some poor stoppages recently in British rings.
marshman 7,758
Dave boy Mcauley vs Fidel Bassa would've been stopped a lot earlier if fought today .

I agree with you there Neems i think a lot of Amir Khans early stoppages were similar its almost as if fighters are playing on the " not firing back " thing that go,s through a referees mind................the fact that barely a punch is landed seems to make no difference a quick windmill attack and its all over.....nobody wants to see a fighter get hurt but you cant take away the essence of what the sport is about. neems 2,406
It's even worse in the amateurs,I think the rule is something like if you don't respond to a single punch you're seen as unable to continue.
