Hay gays any thaughts on how to remove it was sighitgn in with remington 17 grain vmax boat taile and about half adosen shots in and the round went off but bullet head stuck in chaimber how do I get it out or spend shit loads in a smithy

Cleaning rod from the muzzle, it'll pop out if it's only in the chamber.

It won't have done any damage, it's not uncommon, poke it out from the muzzle end.

In fairness Charlie, I don't think there's anything wrong with the calibre. It seems more to do with the quality control during the manufacture of the ammunition.

I wouldnt say cheap shite ammo as ive had my fair share of bad ammo using hornady vmax which is probably the most commonly used ammo. I now however check the neck of each bullet for cracks.

A cracked neck is surely a manufacturing defect through and a surely quality control issue, isn't it? Surely it's nothing to do with the calibre beyond perhaps it being more difficult to manufacturer consistently, otherwise every bullet would be bad.

 

Surely if there are issues, then there should be an automated Xray process of each bullet off the production line with defect recognition software and a means of rejecting said bullets.

Maybe one way to get something like this implemented would be to complain to Trading Standards in the UK that the product is dangerous and unsafe because defective rounds are commonplace and leave a bullet lodged in the gun which could then result in a second cartridge being fired and an over pressure and explosion. I can't see Trading Standards ignoring that.

 

The only danger would be that manufacturers could simply choose to withdraw the calibre from the UK leaving UK shooters without ammo.

 

However, with something like ammunition it needs to be inherently reliable.

Yeah I wont be trying that. Ive found as many as 4 in 50 before now. Touch wood new batch has been ok but a friend on another forum had a recent problem with a new batch. I also carry a spare rod in the hmr bag just in case.

I am all for a joke but sometimes it gets irresponsible - sorry. Your post really should be removed.

 

In about 5000 rounds of Hornady 17gr v-max I have not had a single duff round. A few times they have failed to fire but that was because I had not properly seated the bolt and they fired the second time after a quick re-set.

My bullets are stored indoors in a safe in a warm dry room. I buy 500 at a time. Is it possible that poor (damp?) storage (home or dealer) could be a cause in some cases? A crack in the case will only cause failure if damp has got in.

 

If the bullet has only just entered the chamber and can be pushed out easily, rod it out from the muzzle end. Otherwise use the rod to tap it through in the normal direction of travel, from breech to muzzle.
