RemyBolt 420
Back home with a feeling of semi satisfaction. At my usual haunt, having a problem finding any rabbits...as usual. Then I come around the side of one of the buildings to see a rabbit quickly duck down. Estimated distance at 50 yards (I usually zero in the patch of land where he is, so I can happily say I was about 1-2 meters off at most. HA, this little bugger is mine! I stalk up, taking about 35-40 seconds per step, then I post up against the side of the grain silo. Distance is now 30ish meters. The rabbit's ears had popped back up and he'd starts to eat grass again. Gently I squeeze the trigger, crosshairs marked between his eye and ear. Perfect side shot coming up....he stands upright, and holds there for a second or 2...the pellet is released and heading straight on the zero, and he drops his ears back and hops to the side, just as my pellet gently pierces the top of his closest ear. WOOOSH, straight away and he's gone. The rest of the day was spent faffing around and trying to get good with a couple of pigeons and crow calls that I had purchased...and shooting up a random brick to double check the zero and because I wanted more ranged practice. As I was walking back to my car, sun beating down like a slow nuclear explosion, melting my skin, I saw a little woodie sat up in a tree. I tried out my call and it responded, pretty much mimicking the call I did. While still in shock, I figured, the farmer has said if I came across a pigeon, take it out as they are eating a lot of chicken feed......so up come the cross hairs once again. Everything was perfect, there was a small gentle breeze, the sun was great, gun was loaded, zero was done and ready. There was no way this could go wrong, and it didn't. The trigger pull was flawless, that wonderful thud sound of a clean kill shot...just what I needed to hear. Wings pupped up, and it just fell straight backwards. Stone cold dead. The moment of sheer perfection, after a handful of failed hunts, was suddenly shattered into a million pieces. The pigeon didn't hit the ground! WTF?!?! I walk around to see if it had fallen behind the tree, which would explain why I didn't see it drop all the way down. After a couple of minutes searching the ground, I look up. Only to see this pigeon, wings spread like a handglider, snagged on a branch about 4 meters above me. Son of a..... Well, at least it was a good shot. 1 Quote Link to post

RemyBolt 420
I did throw a couple of good sized stones at it, but then I felt like I was back in the Dark Ages and was stoning a pigeon to death for being a witch. The hunt was a success, even though the pot is empty...still Quote Link to post
RemyBolt 420
I'm the opposite mate. In 2 weeks, I've seen a total of 5 rabbits on 2 of my permissions. Of those, 1 was the one earlier today. I'm going back for him tomorrow. Kind of tempted to leave it and let the population grow back up, but I promised the farmer a rabbit for stewing and I'm a man of my word. Quote Link to post
