lukey 1,621
He is getting there malt thanks mate, he went though a year of hell docs couldn't suss out what was wrong, was the spleen all along they found that out after a aneurism of his main artery to the spleen. In saying that would have help if he had told em that a scaffolding had fell on him and he got a bit streight across his belly lol! But hopefully make a decent enough recovery
jonah. 775
My brother in law had his removed following a bike accident, it was about 30 yr ago, he never had any ill effects as such. He's since talked about it with others that have the procedure more recently and there seems to a pattern of most folk on tablets for the rest of their life, but no serious lifestyle changes needed. Good luck to him.

His was 3 times the size so had to be opened right up so I think that will slow things up a bit with him, he's having good and bad days

Thanks Lukey Kind of a friend of a friend but I know someone who was in a serious car crash. Now I'm 90% sure his spleen was removed. He's a DJ now.....goes all over...London, Amsterdam, Ibiza......I don't think it's stopped him in anyway. Manual graft might be a different ball game though. Hope it works out for him in the end bud..?
lukey 1,621
Cheers lab, it's good hearing positive things, about people that's had it done! Maybe look at trying to get him a easier line of work!
spade 224
I've had mine out (at 15 months old), so has my mum and my eldest lad, all due to a hereditary blood cell disorder. It hasn't really stopped any of us doing what we have wanted to do. The main thing is without a spleen you are classed as immuno deficient so can be open to infections and what you would think minor things can turn pretty nasty. Your dad will be on antibiotics for the rest of his life and he must have an annual flu jab and a pneumococcal jab every few years (something to do with a strain of meningitis). Hope he has a speedy recovery and make sure that especially during the next 12 months that if he feels unwell to get to the GP.
