Carlos Serra Zafrilla 1
Hello everybody! I have just arrived in the UK from Spain and I would like to know EVERYTHING that is necessary to hunt in the UK. That means: licenses, hunting grounds info, etc. I don't know how much time I'm going to live here and I think it is a great opportunity to feel great experiences. Regards, Carlos
baw 4,360
England has the best hunting. Ask about for the fens, it's renowned for being the best hunting ground.

Carlos Serra Zafrilla 1
No, I am not Catalan, though my surname comes from Catalonia and Valencia. I'm interested mainly in deer hunting, but I really like everything regarding hunting. In Spain we are also starting with roebucks tomorrow. What do you need to hunt here? Thanks!! J Darcy 5,871
Hi Carlos, you need to have a Firearms Licence and, of course, permission from the landowner. There is no state-owned public land hunts available over here. But Essex is full of deer, so you live in a good area. Try a post in the deer stalking section on here or register at The Stalkers Directory and I'm sure someone will give you a morning out. Just do not get drawn into paying too much money for stalking as there are some unscrupulous sharks in the stalking game in the UK. Welcome to our country, hope you enjoy yourself.
sikastag_1 689
If your wanting to get stalking right away mate try book with a guide like darcy has said above go onto the stalking directory and speak with some guides, you don't need a firearms certificate if you want to go out with a guide then he can let you use his rifle although if you plan on staying for a while getting your firearms certificate and some land to shoot on is what your after. Bueno I live in Barca mate. As for hunting in the UK as Darcy said it's a long winded process. Unlike Spain the mental certification from the Dr is not all you need. You'll need to arrange for an interview with the firearms dept and purchase a gun safe etc. When you get your certificate you will then have to abide by the restrictions that WILL be placed on you. You cannot just get a certificate, buy a rifle and start roaming the countryside
Carlos Serra Zafrilla 1
It is not so easy to hunt in spain, Mushroom. First you need to pass an exam to get a firearme license (and you need to pay to get the right to do that exam). then you need to have a hunting licence for each autonomus community and then you have to pay for the hunting ground. Thank you for your advice. What is the range of prices for hunting with a guide? I suppose that like in spain, the price will vary depending on the quality of the trophy. Isnt it?? How do you obtain the permission from the landlord? Lots of questions, but this is a very interesting issue for me!!

Knocking on doors is the way to get permission but it's a chicken and the egg type issue you cannot get permission on your Cert without having land to shoot that is safe for your choice of firearm. An open ticket is very rarely given at first request although it does happen sometimes. As for here I looked into getting a rifle as my friend has a farm up in Lleida and was told all I needed was the mental certificate (el certificado que dice que no estoy loco ) Then register with the police and away I go
Carlos Serra Zafrilla 1
Mushroom, you need that certificate that says that you are not crazy (most of the times you only have to pay for it) and then take an exam at the offices of Guardia Civil. i think those exams are taken on a monthly basis. Be careful because even if your friend has a farm, you can be doing something illegal. The property needs to has a hunting ground status, if not, you cannot hunt. And of course you will also need to pay for the hunting license of catalonia. I'm afraid that it's a pretty tough work to find out who is the landowner of a certain amount of land in the Uk...

Carlos Serra Zafrilla 1
Thank you all! I think that when someone goes to another country, then he should learn as much as possible about the country's culture. I hope I don't leave the UK without taking down something. What about muntjacs?? Are they expensive to hunt?
