Venum 10
Two sample pots... Now thats not a bad shout at all ;D I know what you mean with spray paint, it can rack up the costs but if its quality I can see it as an investment. If you look online... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-X-250ml-Army-Military-Vehicle-Camouflage-Spray-Paint-10-Colours-Matt-Finish-/251326791920?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Paint_Varnish_MJ&var=&hash=item3a843e80f0 Never used it before, these a couple of greens and browns, any three mixed for about the cost your paying for a single can might make it worth a punt :/ I like the stuff from halfords camo range, cost about 8 pound for a 300mil tin, using it on my rifle (It aint finished yet...) if there the tones your after? Keep smiling, it aint monday yet... Venum 1 Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Yeeeeeah ...... Black's sexy ~ on a trap. But, not so clever when it's set, above ground and in view ~ is my thinking. I mean, the septics have a whole different ethos to trapping. Most of their (sexy, black) traps are buried anyway. And people, by and large, just tend to accept and ignore traps which are more visible. Not that Anyone, round here, would in any way shape or form interfere with my sets. Dunno. It's just ingrained force of old habit, with me Alright. Ye got me: I honestly can't offer Any meaningful f**king explanation for my aversion to blackened, exposed trap parts. Except a life long habit I'm, now, just a bit worried though that the post office seems to automatically slap a forty quid 'Handling Charge' on Any package Customs passes them, from outside the EU. F**king expensive Speed Dip! Quote Link to post
Matt 160
'Commercial Sample' Pete And a black trap is nigh on invisible from a distance.... Just my take on it. Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
:icon_eek: F**k me, Venum!!! I'd give my left bollock for a few of those cans! And at That price?! Is that for real?! Unfortunately, of course; They won't send here. And, even if they would? They'd ask a phone number postage bill. Just like f**king Amazon and most other places Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
'Commercial Sample' Pete Not sure that holds, here, mate No " Handling Charge " in UK, is there ....? Quote Link to post
heritage 202
I've tried aerosol paint many times on all manor of things and although the initial results look fantastic it soon chips & wears with use.....to paint a few traps or tealers costs a small fortune and it just isn't economical... I also tried the speed dip & i didn't like it as it was just too messy for me.... A few years ago I switched over to the Dakota line trap and snare dip, its available in brown but dries with a green tinge., Its very easy to do , especially on older traps and it gives a good consistent result, being water based the mess is also minimal.. I had several cans from John b @ Fourteenacre and up to yet I've done hundreds of traps, if it wears or chips then its a 2 minute job to re dip them although I only normally give my gear a check / clean ect.. Once I'm done trapping for the year. Atb...... Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Interesting heads up, Heritage. Thanks. Now; I've been run off my feet all day and night. I'm now going to say, 'F**k it all!' and go watch at least the two episodes of " Ashes To Ashes " I've just DL'd. DL'd them last night too. But, got so wrapped up in shit I never got to watch them! I'll look into all this some more yet. Cheers, all. And 'Night, for now Quote Link to post
EDDIE B 3,169
Yea keep it simple, speed dip or black mat spray paint! A can a paint will go a long way and no real need to camo them up! Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Yeah; I see that I should've explained myself better Simple fact is that I like doing cammo jobs on things! It's a little pleasure in itself, to me I cammo my bird best boxes. Even to the point of colouring them to match the shed side they're hanging on. Hell; I even coloured half of Noel's cow shed, just to my row of starling boxes wouldn't stand out after I stained them the same brown! What it is; I just have this obsession with Not littering the countryside with glaring, 'white' signs of my presence. Everyone around here paints their cottages brilliant white. I want mine Green! So it'll just blend into the landscape. Not catch the eye. 1 Quote Link to post
EDDIE B 3,169
Top job with the boxes Pete! Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
They still need the odd streak and feather of black yet, Ed'. Ye'd be amazed the difference that makes. Translates into the natural shadows we (don't realise we) see in a tree stand / hedgerow setting. Have to get a bucket, next time I'm in town. Need it to finish a few fence pales here anyway. Hmm. With so much of it left over to spare; I wonder what would happen if ye used black for a ground colour? Over laid it with the greens and browns. Especially leaving the greens bold and live? That could, possibly, lead to an interesting job for certain circumstances. Might try that out on some bits of scrap wood. Then just toss them in the hedge bottoms and such. Quote Link to post
Venum 10
Love spraying camo myself, it's a bit addictive mind ;D I have always gone for a light tan base coat because I reckon it's going to be easier to blend over than a darker base, let me know how it goes when you try painting over black? All the best, Venum Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Venum; I could enthuse about cammo like some do about football! I recognise ~ and like ~ your premise, mate. I tend to use the brown first. Because that's what I have. I normally use the black last. Because it needs only the thinner streaks. Big, blocks of black aren't good. Good news on the sample pots front! They can indeed knock up any paint I want in those. €4.00 a pot! Probably extortionate, compared to the cost of a gallon of the same. But, who the f**k wants a gallon of paint to dab a few traps with?! Now, I need to discern the right shades. I have a close one, for grass. But, I need to compare if to the trees too, yet. Then, of course, the colours change, as the year rolls round! Grass is darkening as we speak. Fascinating topic. Cammo Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Break up the shape, size and edges of the object with your paint Pete. Black/light colour at the edges of an object has the effect of losing a straight edge against some backgrounds, it disrupts the eye looking for conventional shapes amongst natures disorder. Don't be afraid to use purple in the mix too, light patches, dark patches, not in any order or convention, no colour blocks. Look at why 'RealTree' works - base colour, multi coloured pattern, fitted to specific environment - pine forest, marshland reeds etc, then look at DPM (Disruptive pattern material) that the British Army pioneered - it was designed for dawn/dusk half light - it breaks up conventional patterns and edges OTC Quote Link to post

Heard that one before, mate That's why these are not finished yet, see? Notice how much bare wood's still showing through there. I want more than just the two shades. Unfortunately, there's no black available just yet. Town'll restock as the weather gets better. That's not helping me though. I'm a bit loath to mix stain and paint too. Sat here in one of my flek tarn shirts. Absolutely The cammo, got this area! A f**king nightmare to try and reproduce with a brush though! Quote Link to post
