Snifferboy 659
My mates bitch had a toe removed on the rear left leg, second toe out, worst thing he could of done… Although she can still run well, she is always lame after a night out or even a quick tear up with the pup, though better than she was, she still carries her foot a lot of the time, obviously in pain. This has been over the past 2 years, so plenty of time to recover. At the time I did think he was a bit over zealous in getting it chopped off immediately, as he didn't seek any other advice than that of his vet. More of a pets vet than working dog… But if you have had it checked out by someone you trust implicitly, then it is probably your best option. Better to get them running again and doing what they love, than to let them suffer more, I have heard of others that do fine but don't be surprised if there is ongoing lameness after nights out... Hope it all works out for you Quote Link to post
budgie123 163
I would advice getting the dog looked at by Richard Torr at Greyhound Sports near east midlands air port. There is alternatives to taking the toe off. Cementing the toe with a product used in voracious veins which stabilizes the toe. Fibre wiring the toe which a friend had done on his dog and worked. He advices against removing front toes. Rear foot toes are removed with no problems but strain put on adjoining toes on the front foot leads to issues with these. His advice and expertise is second to non and his charges are a lot different from pet dog vets. 1 Quote Link to post
