Outlaw Pete 2,224
FFS, Stig! I'll be right round then! I'd give my arse to have bloody sparrows here. Barely see the buggers at all now. And they're what I'm trying to target
the_stig 6,614
my place is surrounded by coinfer hedge pete so we gets loads of them ---they feed from first light to last and soon empty my feeders
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Conifer hedge? I've got a conifer plan f**king tation behind this place, mate! My very own bloody great stand of Sitka Spruce. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference though. Little f**kers just don't appear. Then, just to really rub it in? They ignored all the lovely nest boxes I put up for them. Go behind the steel sheeting of the cow sheds instead. Bast@rds!
Tiercel 6,986
In 5 years I have only had one cock sparrow on the feeders that was last year. Yet 100 yards away in the next street there are plenty feeding in the front gardens. TC
Malt 379
anybody offer a reason up as to why they havent been about? 3 years ago i had them feeding at my mums everyday, just moved back here end of november and only seen two, one of them yesterday! however there has been a couple of siskens/greenfinches on the nyger every day, embarrassingly i cant figure out how to tell the difference regardless of the internet and the 'bird i.d' books i own this is a good bird ID site: http://www.garden-birds.co.uk/birdgallery.htm
Outlaw Pete 2,224
100 yards away in the next street there are plenty feeding in the front gardens. Yep. They can be funny f**kers, like that, TC. My old neighbours used to feed them, up at their place, and had plenty. New guys don't feed them and the birds know my nuts are here. Yet they still don't come that 100 yards down the bloody hedge! I'm sure they do it, just to f**kin wind me up!

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Yeah, and I bet yours never had Tree Sparrows in it, like that one, eh?! Personally, I've never really seen any attraction in those 'Sparrow Terrace' things. I just bung up a solid row of how ever many, single, boxes, hard side by side. My reasoning being that I could then access each one individually. Imagine opening a triple terrace, to ring them? Whole f**king façade open. All the chicks exposed. And,what if one lot's ready to explode and those next door are just ready to be ringed? F**k that Still, as said; Makes no f**king difference. Because these local f**kers are just hard wired to best within the fabric of the sheds. Bast@rds.

Outlaw Pete 2,224
TC; Yeppers. Cheep crescent and brown cap (As opposed to gray) give us Tree. To a lesser extent, the little, neat bib too. Personally? I always zero in on the crown first Albert; With hearts out, are ye seeing any greenies?
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Here ye go ~ you guys wanting to tell greenies from siskins. I just came across a photo that says it all: http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/paddy18/media/20140215_150220_zpsba6783e7.jpg.html Not my shot, so I'm linking to it, rather than lifting it. Greenie on the left. These are ABCR (Legally captive bred and rung) birds.
