Hedges......

Recommended Posts

I was cutting down hedges with a mate at the weekend. Don't know the name of it, common garden hedge, is it privot? Anyhow, this hedge is about 30 feet long, 7 foot tall and well over 20 year old. We sawed it down till it was about a foot from the ground but by f**k the roots are hard to get out. We broke 2 forks and a spade  still got loads of it to dig out. What I want to know is...... Do you need every root out or will the b*****d grow back?

diesel will stink for months to come, plus its illegal the neighbour will report you.barrow loads of road salt, the hedge will die never to return

Unless you dig deep and wide and then sift the soil , you arnt going to get every root or bit of root , consider it an ongoin job ,every spring you will have to deal with new shoots , this is presumin

Lol, the building ends where the hedge starts, it'll be at the entrance. I thought I was relatively fit till I done this

Now we are talking, cheers scot mate, that sounds a better plan. Now, there are shit loads of brambles too woven in the hedge, do you think the salt will work on that too? I'm tell yea, you'd think I'd been wrestling a tiger at the weekend, hedge from hell

If it's privet keep chopping it with an axe the ground aswell like your turning the earth over but with an axe I know it sounds wrong but it works

As much fun as that sounds mate, I'd get the f***ing jail going ape with an axe in Glasgow

yup put enough it down it will make the ground sterile.and its easy to get there a salt bin in most streets.

Aye mate, I never thought of salt, makes sense mate. Any ideas without breaking anymore garden tools or wielding an axe on how to get the roots out easily
