Irish Wolfhound

Recommended Posts

Hi Penny I judged the wolfhound show in Sydney and there were a few that were abominations but there were more around that 32 to 34 inch mark that were good sound dogs. But after giving a speech how the most usable size for these dogs is around 32 to 33 inches and how hunters desire the traits that come along with the wolf hound they all went off and height measured their dogs and give a trophy to the abomination that is nearly 37" tall. Bloody KC show breeders have no idea. when I said to them your standard says they are not to be as massive as a great Dane they said there not. My reply was that great Danes were not that big when your standard was written.

Would like to put my bull weatonxgray over 1 if they did work make a monster of a terriermans lurcher.

you would need to dig two feckin' big holes! first one for the dog to draw from and the second to bury the useless sack of sh#t!

I thought a terrier man needed a lurcher to course the fox if it bolted. If he needs it for drawing well then he's not much of a terrier man, is he ?

Regarding Wolfhounds, if I remember correctly I think there was a coursing competition held for them years ago and someone wrote afterwards that those Wolfhounds that did reach their quarry didn't want to kill it when they got there.

Anyways, the Wolfhound of today is a modern breed, so to speak, they were extinct and recreated using Scottish Deerhounds and various Mastiff crosses.

Legend has it that the Wolfhound of Celtic Ireland was as good as two men in battle.

NOW that dog would have made some lurcher.
