Kemperz21 65
As above I'm looking at maybe getting a greyhound or a greyX in addition to my collie/grey xbull/whip I'm wondering if a pure grey has any applications in the field or will it be best to get a grey heavy lurcher ? If I want speed Quote Link to post
Ocset 91
A pure grey is fine in the field, just get a pup from proper stock. The people that tell you about paper thin skin and poor feet will never have owned one and I doubt they've seen one work. People who've seen ex racers work aren't the best to give you an answer. 2 Quote Link to post

Kemperz21 65
Two posts lol it's for varied land some big fields some small but if need be ill use smaller dog on small fields just wondering if the breed is any good for working or will I have to get a cross for that Quote Link to post
lucky 578
If I was you I would find a greyhound cross rather than a pure, there stamina is very limited. I've seen loads run but they were mainly ex track dogs and they were all shite, except for one that I was pretty impressed with until it's third run, a mate of mine had it and we were running some hares on big land, it killed its first 2 in fine style and could turn as good as any dog I've ever seen, and at a pace that would leave most lurchers for dead sadly it collapsed and died after missing its 3rd run, maybe a heart attack ?? But we will never know, a shame really because the same dog was very good on the lamp aswell, and was responsible for the demise of a few foxes aswell. This was about 12 year ago now and I haven't seen another decent one since. Quote Link to post
Ocset 91
The stuff used for coursing and working shouldn't have bad feet. In fact proper greyhounds don't have bad feet regardless of where they run. A dog raised as a hunting dog will be able to turn and stop. 1 Quote Link to post
tommy.c 859
had a full grey bitch about 20 odd year ago, killed loads of hares for me, cracking we bitch and was brilliant at jumping aswell 1 Quote Link to post
hounddog3 756
if its for rough hunting better of with a grey cross as they spend more time in the pen injured than in the field . Quote Link to post

Dead Eyes 681
Dunno about coursing lines, but I know a fella that got an ex track dog for hares. Ran straight into a fence on its VERY FIRST RUN FOR HIM! Broke its neck... Quote Link to post
