Ripstop 89
A question, a lot of people use heating systems in their kennels. What about if you havnt got heaters? I havnt, but they are well warm nand draught free.. Anyone use a small heater, like stay on for an hour. poratble type. If so, whens best to put heater on?
donnyc 1,203
Think if the are draught free should be no bother its the draughts and damp that gets them
Huan72 687
Agree with the draft and damp thing, also remember things like your dogs getting wet and then putting them away, they loose body heat something like 25 times quicker when wet. Also important is coat, body fat and build or breed. A short stocky dog, with a good coat will do much better than a greyhound for instance, the worst body shape for cold weather is tall and thin, a large surface area compared to its weight, so body heat is radiated out. I haven't got kennels but if I did they would be heated, probably on a timed thermostat. But if they are warm and draft free, then no problems, I would like to have the ability to heat if required though for particulaly cold days
buster gonads 862
I use a tube heater in mine that runs through a frost stat, you can set it to come on as low as -5 or higher if you want, they dont use much power and as a bonus stops the dogs water freezeing while iam out at work, buster. paulus 26
i have a heat lamp over the bed board thats deeply filled with shredded waxed paper, i only use it when the dogs are cold and wet or the temperature is very, very cold, it helps if you can keep two together but you really need to be sure they are compatible

You can feel the warmth in the sleeping box when its been on, my dogs recomend them , atb, buster.
