Ossie n Arch 1,683
On our afternoon walk, the dogs and I walk along some disused railway lines and a coal stacking yard. The place has always had a few Rabbits, but not loads. This summer the Rabbits seemed to have bred really well and the numbers were well up on the last few years. But over the last 4-6 weeks iv'e noticed less of them about. Well, over the last 5 days walk we've come across 3 dead and 1 dying Rabbit. Now these Rabbits are as clean as a whistle, no sign of Myxi, no holes anywhere on them and no blood either. Their eyes were very clear too. The dying one was laying on it's side and only moved when i poked it with my stick. I necked it and put it in the tree for the Buzzards. All of them were close to cover but not in it. The land is up for delevopment but not for a while. Could someone be poisoning them to clear them out ?? RVHD Maybe ?? Any ideas what could be causing this, Arch. Outlaw Pete 2,224
Would any developer bother about rabbits to that extent? I'd have thought they'd just bulldoze, regardless.

Malt 379
VHD hammering our rabbits round here at the minute, they've been dropping off in number for the last few years and its been confirmed that its here at last.. I could go out down the road and be guaranteed to see loads of rabbits in the fields when I first moved here, there were all sorts of colours too. Not now though.. Born Hunter 17,965
You think that's weird, I've been finding dead rabbits, hares, crows, pigeons and even a roe doe for the past few months! Mostly clean with no indication to cause of death. There's so much natural food about and temperate weather it just makes no sense?
Outlaw Pete 2,224
You think that's weird, I've been finding ..... Now, That's f**king weird! Disparate birds and mammals? Creepy shit! I remember when this " VHD " first broke out amongst ferrets. I was working on it and got a call from a mink farmer who nailed it for me. But, a larger and better funded organisation, backed by a vet, caught up with it and stole our thunder. I'll never forget the day though, in between times, when I was called out to inspect a young girls pet rabbit. There it was, exhibiting symptoms of the same disease! It had leaped species?!? I honestly thought it was the end of the f**king world! This was it. The plague that would wipe us all off the face of the earth! I rang Stan' and the mad c*** told me; " No! It's a disease of rabbits! ". Funny, that. The fact that it had leapt from rabbits to ferrets didn't bother me any more. Yet, thinking it had gone from ferrets to a rabbit ....? Anyway .....
