Help!!!!

Recommended Posts

I have a 14 month old 5/8 whippet 3/8 greyhound who I have just started this season. He is completely unspoilt and I have just started him off ferreting. If a rabbit bolts and slips the net he gives chase and easily outmatches the rabbit but won't pick up he just backs off. If the rabbit is in the net he has no interest nor if they are out of the net dead. Anyone got any ideas or have I got an anti blood sports Lurcher????

motivation is what is required make a game using a dead rabbit so he associates giving it to you as fun

Best to start off with a fresh rabbit skin round a dummy: drag it round the garden on a length of string. Loads of praise when he catches it. He has a confidence issue, and without seeing other dogs catching he doesn't quite know what to do. The prey drive is there as he's chasing them, but it falls short of actually grabbing hold of the rabbit. Build up his confidence on rabbit skin dummy, then dead rabbit on string. Be patient, it might take a while for things to click, especially if he's never been around dead rabbits from being a small pup.

good advice here. one thing that might be worth a try - when you neck a bunny in a net, quickly tease the dog with it while its still twitching, might just trigger it to take an interest. keep trying, it will come good

My friend as are pup doing the same thing he as started

Playing with the dead bunny teasing and playing fetch he found that if he had is older dog out she would fetch it

Straight away but at first shy wouldn't bring the bunny as someone said this could take some time A.T.B.
