Qualifiers For Great Game Fairs Of Ireland Events

Recommended Posts

In 2013 we organised

1.A hugely successful Master McGrath Challenge at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle

2. A brilliant FIVE NATIONS LURCHER CHAMPIONSHIP at the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle where Fiona Devlin's Maverick defended his title and qualifies again for 2014.

3. A fantastic FIVE NATIONS TERRIER CHAMPIONSHIP at the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle where Dodge a top English terrier won against very strong opposition.

AND of course we ran the 26th annual ALL IRELAND TERRIER & LURCHER CHAMPIONSHIPS to award the titles All Ireland Lurcher Racing Championa ; All Ireland Terrier Racing Champion and the All Ireland Whippet Racing Champion plus the equivalent show titles including the Best in Show being the ALL IRELAND CHAMPION. We also ran equivalent ROI championships at the Birr Fair.

For 2014 the 27th ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS will be organised by Keiran Young and his team and the ROI Championships by Shane Lee and his team. I will be working closely with them on the Master McGrath qualifiers and the Five Nations Qualifiers.

AND we ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE a NEW FIVE NATIONS WHIPPET CHAMPIONSHIP but this will be staged at SHANES CASTLE on the 28th & 29th June 2014. The other two Five Nations Championships will be staged at Birr on the 23/24 August 2014. Prizes for the challenges will be similar to 2013.

I am now open to receive applications from organisers of shows in NI, ROI, England, Scotland and Wales for qualifiers for their shows taking place in the rest of 2013 and in 2014. Please call me or email me details of your show to irishgamefair@btinternet.com

Please note : We will be restricting the number of NI Qualifiers so if you want to have a qualifier please apply early.

Delighted :D to hear that you have decided to go ahead with a NEW FIVE NATIONS WHIPPET CHAMPIONSHIP :toast: in 2014 Albert  ............ whippets are a truly versatile little breed who have increased in popularity lately, at many of the shows I have been to over the past couple of years the whippet numbers have well exceeded those of terriers. I shall look forward to hopefully getting a dog qualified, lol!! :D

LJ, We will be delighted to have suggestions for qualifying shows from NI, ROI , England, Scotland and Wales for this inaugural Championship - I have been asked why it is at Shanes - the answer is that I have underwritten myself so I don't have to bring the rest of the team along. While they fully support my efforts on the other championships we have in place exciting new innovations for the gundogs, clay pigeon shooting and angling and have to budget for them

It's going to be some five nations with these nervous neurotic wee skitters.

I'll settle for my two " dogs ". lol

ive always said Dazzam and Up the beam were a bit strange,,,but to say they are nervous neurotic wee skitters is a bit cheeky Bri. And the last time your "dogs" seen a rabbit, they were sitting with you on your settee watching the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet. :D:D :D

The Irish Draught Horse Society NI and The Iveagh Fox Hounds Dog Show  Saturday 31st May 2025.
Outside Banbridge in the shadow of the beautiful and now world famous Mountains of Mourne lies Churchview Boarding Kennels on the Waringsford Road. With a backdrop of spectacular scenery this was the perfect venue for The Irish Draught Horse Society NI and The Iveagh Fox Hounds Dog Show last Saturday 31st May 2025. And what a show that was.
As the summer season of the thrills and spills of our dog shows commence, for a first time dog show this show took off and continued all day without a hitch. From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border with families and dogs in tow.
Saturdays show was run with impeccable organisation. This was twinned with the show rings being full of Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets, Hounds and also a class on the day for Strong dogs.
Paul Boyd was there with his stand filled with all essentials for the Country Sports fraternity. There was also teas and cake stand with some lovely goodies on offer. We were blessed with good weather, with a slight cooling breeze and the odd spit of rain.

The DWTC Traditional Dog Show Sunday 25thMay 2025
As the showing season has now took off for 2025 and the work in the field complete, it was nice to be able to make our annual trip to the DWTC traditional dog show on Sunday  25th May  in Gilford.  The weather  was not kind to us, with a light wind and several heavy showers in between  classes. This did not dampen the spirits of the show goers who came out to support this now popular annual show. The venue was superb, and the crowd was big.
Our shows are all great meeting places in the summer season for genuine Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet and Strong dog men and women to come together for a bit of craic  and a chat, and maybe go home with a trophy or two. And that is exactly what happened at the DWTC show on Sunday.
It was nice to see so many families, their children and dogs all out on enjoying a day out at the sport we love. Our passion is showing with our Canine friends in the summer and back to the field with them in the winter.
As show time was about to start, first on the menu and first in the ring was the childrens handling class. And boy did these little folk show their dogs. There were 24 very excited we people in the ring and everyone with their very special friend. You were all winners on the day and all went home with bags of lovely goodies to munch on. Well done to all.
The show commenced at approximately 1.00pm.
*Here are the Overall Showing Results
      Childrens Handling Class
      1/ Jake Maginn with Fly
      2/ Amy Whitten with Snoopy
      3/ John Boyd with Jack
These young people participating are our huntsmen and women of tomorrow and will keep our Country Sports going long after we have gone.
Congratulations to the winners and all the children in the ring on Sunday.
      Overall Champion Whippet
      Karla Wilson with Junior
      Reserve
      Jake Maginn with Fly
      Overall Champion Lurcher
      Kyle Quinn with Ranger
      Reserve
      Kenny Hamilton with Frank
      Overall Champion Terrier
      Gary Kelly with Harry
      Reserve
      Pauric Charlie with Red
      Overall Champion Strong Dog
      Kyle Quinn with Chapo
      Reserve
      Michael Mc Carrstican with Stanley
***Overall Show Champion and Best in Show***
      Kyle Quinn with Chapo
      ***Overall Champion Pup***
      Kirsty Smyth with Sika
      Congratulations to all above winners
And Finally, the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges.
      Childrens Handling Class
      Leanne Barry/Raymond Crilly
      Whippets / Jim Forrester
      Lurchers/ Jim Forrester
      Terriers/  Raymond Crilly
      Strong Dogs/ Eddie Shaw
And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Tom and Leanne Barry, Ethan, Morgan, and your back up team Gary Mitchell and Thomas Coleman, you are all simply the best. Your show was run with impeccable organisation and everything ran without a hitch.
It was very evident a lot of preparation and hard work went on behind the scenes to make this show a success this year again and was a most enjoyable day for everyone.
Tom and Leanne, a brilliant day was had by all despite the rain. The window for Country Sports is in our blood and hopefully we will meet again at your show in 2026 for more of the same.
