BWB 3
after (trying) to make some purse nets for the last god knows how long ive decided to dig out the old ones i was given 5/6 years ago . the nets iam making at the moment are 4ft long but when i searched through these nets today the longest seems only 3ft a lot even shorter . they have caught rabbits before and probally will but my nets that im making seem huge compared to these which got me thinking can a net be too big i know its a case of how longs a peice of string sort of thing as to different size holes . but would a large purse net work/purse the same on a small hole as it would on a big hole cheers Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
a purse net is a personal thing regarding how long and by how many meshes wide. but a general rule of thumb is 3ft 6inch and 4ft nets being the averidge size by 14,16, or 18 mesh wide. then the the larger poke nets come into play. OF COURSE EACH FERRETER HAS THEIR PREFERED NET SIZE, THIS IS JUST A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF NET SIZE. Quote Link to post
Leon 0
Like MC said it's a personal thing I like short nets 18" but do keep a few five footers for big places. The big nets purse up I have never had a problem. Quote Link to post
Mitch 0
Yes they can be, When they get bigger around 5ft i find they dont close fast enough, thats when you make em into a poke net Quote Link to post
Leon 0
No perfect for some of the holes we do, I wasn't convinced untill I used some. Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , IMO ........... I WOULD GO FOR A LARGER NET EVERYTIME ........... EVEN WHEN A NET DOESNT PURSE FAST ..... IF ...... ITS LARGE ENOUGH IT STILL ROLLS AROUND THE GAME . PERSONALLY I NEVER MAKE A PURSE NET SHORTER THAN 4 FOOT AND LOVE MY 5 / 5 1/2 FOOT POKE NETS WITH SLIDERS , I WAS SHOWN THE ERROR OF CRUNCHING THROUGH BRASH TO DROP A NET OVER A HOLE AMONGST BRAMBLES ETC YRS AND YRS AGO .......... WHEN A NICE STRATIGICALLY PLACED NET ON A RUN WILL DO A BETTER , QUIETER JOB ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
