Blackbriar 8,569
the dangers of kids on the net. id screen everything if i had kids, there some sick twisted individuals in cyberworld. So would I Scot. Didn't Gary McKinlan 'belong' to Anonymous? They hacked NASA, FBI or some such a couple of years ago. I memory serves they ask 'members' to allow their computers to be used as netbots -( I'm sure someone can enlighten us???). I understand (from my youngest stepson) that they used to be a very shadowy, secretive group, but are more mainstream these days.

I understand (from my youngest stepson) that they used to be a very shadowy, secretive group, but are more mainstream these days. Gary McKinnon was just a loner that was fascinated with space and targeted the US hoping to discover stuff about alien cover ups. What he did is in todays terms very simple but when he hacked the yanks it was at a time when the internet was a very different place and things were typically much less secure and easier to hack into if you were that way inclined. He was nothing to do with anoymous. As has been said previously I wouldnt worry too much, the group anonymous are a hacking group that tend to hack stuff for politcal reasons and headlines. Because they are very well known now, the chances are that what ever group he may have joined on facebook is most likely a copycat. He would have to be pretty heavily involved in the hacking communities already to be approached by them directly and if this was the case, despite his age, he would most likely be spending all his time online/on computers messing with stuff etc
