Few Days Out On The Fells...

Smashing photos and the dogs all look grand, out of curiosity what is your choice of footwear for covering all those miles in?

I usually wear Salomon matey, they are brilliant, ultra comfy and grip like a vice on dry/wet/loose underfoot conditions...Dodger advised me to get some and I'm glad I did,I also have some James Boylan all leather hiking boots, they are made in Ireland and are still like new after some serious workload and keep your feet bone dry..I have just ordered yesterday some Merrell boots so will see how they go,I have some Lowa's but just desert boots, they are like slippers and I also have some Jack Pykes ...super comfortable but leak in like a sieve..but again on advice from Vin this time I purchased some Sealskinz socks..feet are dry even with the Jack Pykes and Lowa's on now :-) but so far matey I'm a Salomon lover for general hiking and what not?

I dont do quarter the miles you do but I bought a pair of scarpa ranger gtx 2 a couple of years ago and they've been very impressive and still waterproof.

I'm looking at getting some Scarpa's myself, they have brilliant reviews in fact I don't think I've ever read a bad one? Are they heavy or relatively light?

I dont find them heavy at all,1578g is what Scarpa say they are good and strong though they have to be hauling 19st over hill and dale, albeit slowly.sole unit is hard wearing and the lining hasnt worn through at the heel, I replaced insoles.i really like them, make my haix boots feel like hard work when I wear them.i treat the leather with a product called Renapur which I rate very highly.

Where can you purchase that Renapur matey? I think the treating of the footwear makes ALL the difference?

the first lot I bought was at Witton Castle gamefair, since then I order it direct off tinterweb, it lasts well too.

Funny I got some a few years back at a show, treated my new dealer boots with it as instructed, and they still cracked up so I don't really rate the stuff but the chappie at the show said you can use it on the dogs pads if they are cracked as its all natural ingredients. :hmm:

Cheers, D.

PS I think Saloman are great hiking boots but not so good if you ever do any digging :whistling:

And I've been using the Seal Skinz for over 10 years when I was doing the adventure racing on the MTB :toast:
