Gaz_1989 9,539
I've got a lurcher with deerhound greyhound collie and saluki in her good dog, thing is mate with that mix you've put on, its a lottery what they could turn out like that's the problem with breeding lurcher to lurcher some people like it some people don't. You could end up with it throwing to the dh or the whippet or in between you never know. Yeh I appreciate that mate. I will go for a big strong bitch, give it the best of upbringings and hope for the best. Quote Link to post
Robie_n 10
My lad is 3 year old, 27inches deer grey with a splash of beddy 5 generations back. Good coat, feet, nose, very robust and really chilled out at home. Does ok on rabbits, enough to please me. But something clicks behind charlie, with rabbits it seems they have the advantage but its the other way round with them. Has the pace for long ears as well but wont "run clever" behind them, its all or nothing which I love... Would I have another......Yes as an all rounder but as a rabbiting dog no, But he was never going to be a rabbit dog. I would like to put him over a slightly smaller racier bitch 23/24 inches. Be some good pups. I luv the look of the dog that's my ideal in the way of looks, there's plenty of rabbits hanging there for me :-D Quote Link to post

Robie_n 10
GAZ,I like a dog with some deerhound in the mix and have ran quite a few from the 70's onwards as the deerhound/grey x collie/grey was very common back then, here's a pick of a dog from 10yrs ago,I find the more deerhound thats in them then the slower they can be maturing and their laid back no hurry attitude can be found frustrating depending on your own personality. 18-03-05 007.jpg 18-03-05 086.jpg I once ran a 32"tts first cross during the late 80's on larger game and the only thing he struggled on was hare's,pre-ban of course,he took a bit of yardage to get up to speed but was a demon on fox. I run a bitch with about 1/8th deerhound in her now,but she has a lot of beddy in the mix and a dash of collie, she's been a great bitch so far,4yrs old and worked 7 days all year round without a day off from injury, the deerhound seems to give good feet to their progeny as well as good coat, here's a pic of my current bitch, atb,WM DSC_6052.jpg CSC_4525.jpg tess lamp +ferreting 010.jpg CSC_2400.jpg DSC_2133(1).jpg DSC_2580.jpg the deerhound looking dog is exactly what I'm after, does she run rabbits ok in small fields or needing a run at them first? A big dog will surprise you mate, they arent as slow off the mark as people think. I'm new to this to be honest mate and I prefer the long rough coated lurchers and the taller ones and most people seem to be saying there ok on the rabbits which is all I'm after that and being a good pet to get along with my 2 year old daughter and our old labxcollie pet :-) Quote Link to post
