mickeyfn19 16
im going to get my gun re-blued but i wanted to either get it dipped in lacquer so the bluing doesnt rust again or get some gun tape that would make the gun water tight? anyone know of anything like that? Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
If you get it professionally re blued then as long as you wipe it down with a lightly oiled rag after you have been out with it it shouldn't rust. Quote Link to post
Blackbriar 8,569
Hey Skot! Long time,no see!! He's right,Mickey - keep it clean and avoid the problem! Prevention is better than cure. Quote Link to post
mickeyfn19 16
ok but its hard to get into all the tight areas. although if the blue is any good it shouldnt rust anyway right? Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
I once covered my barrel in jackpyke stealth tape and went shooting. It was not wet when i got home and it hadnt been raining.. but when i went to take it off the barrel was soaked with condensation! If i would have left it on the barrel would have been bright orange!! Edited August 2, 2013 by Skot Ruthless Teale Quote Link to post
mickeyfn19 16
right, ill keep that in mind and ditch the idea of camo tape. might just wrap it in standard electrical tape. just so the gun keeps its value!! obviously i would take it off when selling. Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 793
i wrap my rifle barrels in electrical tape mate, then use good old british army sniper tape to cover that as protection from brambles etc. the leccy tape prevents rust even if you keep the tape on for months-which i've been known to do... mickeyfn19 16
does it not trap moisture in though? Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 793
Yes but you have a protective layer of insulating tape between the damp tape and the barrel. Quote Link to post
Wildling 520
Insulated electricians tape is not waterproof mate your better off using something like Self-Amalgamating tape if you want to go down this route rather than wiping the rifle down after each use. Still not going to beat a good regular cleaning regime though IMOP. Quote Link to post
