you always get people saying i use a 9 inch 6mm spike and i use an 8 inch, i got a 3 inch ring or 5.

the thing i find is for somebody new to longnetting is better with a larger ring on the end pin but the spike thickness and length depends on the soil were you work your nets.

i have some very stoney land where i can not get my endpins all the way in to the ground and as there only 5mm im sure they must feel more stress on the spike as its maybe 2/3 inch not in the ground so i could have a shorter spike on the nets i use there

if i was working loose or sandy soil maybe a thicker/longer spike would be more appropriate

just use what you have until more come along as long as you can work your net its not a problem, you can fine tune it all later.
