Stretch177 39
Just been out too feed the ferrets and noticed a tick on one of my hobs, they got a clean out yesterday, washed down the hutches, fresh shavings etc so wondering if it was in the shavings?? Moved all the ferrets into a 2 tier hutch for tonight and going to clean the full hutch/run in the morning again and buy another bag of shavings just too be safe. Have checked the rest but couldn't really see with it being dark, so will have a proper look tomorrow, only seen this one as it was on the side of his cheek and as he is an albino it showed up quite clearly. Never had this before, the only time ive experienced ticks is when my hob escaped and he was covered in them when i got him back. Is it possible that it was in the shavings or is it from another source? Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Depend's on where your shaving's are from. .do you ever have a merry old time rolling about in the long green field's with your lover in these warm summer night's.. if so they may be from you.. Quote Link to post
onthehunt 40
Fresh shavings will unlikely have ticks so your hob would have picked it up outside. unless of course he has fleas, which can carry ticks would de-flea my ferrets regularly as a matter of course. Quote Link to post
Stretch177 39
Hahaha very good ...Onthehunt, the ferrets got a blast of frontline about 3/4 weeks ago, they haven't been out of their cage since friday morning so dont know where hes got it from. Will go ahead with another clean out and then hopefully go from there. Will give them a little spray with the frontline again and hopefully it was just a rogue tick Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
Get the odd one through the summer they can drop off birds and other hosts In your garden nowt to worry about really Quote Link to post
Stretch177 39
Found 2 more this morning after a good look over him, funnily enough though, none of the other ferrets have any on them and the 4 of them all sleep together, are in the same hutch and run together etc etc. Gave them another spray of frontline just too be safe so hopefully that should be it. AirgunGuy 362
Fox in the garden possibly? Could've dropped off when full and latched onto the ferret. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
ticks fall off when they have finished feeding so a passing hedgehog, cat or even a bird flying over can leed to tics. i chucked one in the fag bucket the other afternoon after removing it from one of the lurchers, it was still crawling about the bottom of the bucket 30 minutes later even though there was 6 inch of water in the bucket, also tics and fleas are attracted to any animal that's weak for whatever reason, if you have ever picked up a mixy rabbit you will notice far more tics and fleas than on a healthy one. joe14 98
I found one this morning on one of mine on his eye. So out come my tick picker and frontline sprayed the lot of them. I hate the bloody things.. Quote Link to post
