Recommended Posts

Hi Simon, brilliant read and a great out come from Andy and SFS on the quality kit and tuning work along with your stunning shooting ability.

I'm using the same pellets as SKot and they are bloody brilliant out to 70 mts with 3 1/2 mildots hold over.

As ever inspired by your passion for these boingy things that don't boing

Cheers and all the best

Chris.

Hate to say I told you so. :haha:

I'm just happy that you're pleased with the outcome, Simon. At least there's some aspects of my life that I don't manage to f**k up!!;)

SFS's kit came with a perfectly finished spring and a guide that was a spot on fit. They also sent out one of HW's latest spec. piston heads as well as a top hat although I understand that there's been some supply issues from HW's end recently regarding the piston heads. I don't know if this is still a problem though. They also included two types of grease that I'm not familiar with so I used my own molly-graphite mix. I'm sure that what they sent was properly good stuff but I'm a creature of habbit so I stuck with what I know.

All the rest of the work was just common sense spannering with a little background knowledge and experience. I've said it before and I'll say it again, rocket science this ain't

Cheers, lads :victory:

I'm absolutely delighted with the outcome Andy! ;) It's not rocket science mate, true, but it ain't simple bish, bash and hope-for-the-best either! ;) It's brilliant work you've done here. And don't go knocking yourself laddie. He who never made mistakes = made now't! Call me if you are about and we'll get some shooting sorted pal.

To you all. Si, Chris, Skot. Thank you gentlemen. It is indeed a lovely rifle. I'm going to go look for JSB EXACTS in 4.50mm if they make them in that size. It seems there aren't many barrels that these pellets don't work well with.

Best wishes to all.

FTT 4.50mm 10 shots

high 707.8 fps .. low 686.6 fps .. avr 698.65 fps .. 9.32 FPE - spread 21.2 fps / 0.56 fpe

JSB 4.52mm 10 shots

high 729.6 fps .. low 711.2 fps .. avr 722.4 fps .. 9.73 FPE - spread 18.4 fps / 0.50 fpe

as you can see the JSB are both more consistent and hit harder than the FTT .. at least through my gun.. haven't done a proper accuracy test between the 2 , the wind is not allowing that!!

I notice Skot you are happy using differing headsizes between your FTTs and JSBs. But clearly, you are getting better alround results with the JSBs. I'm going to have to spend cash on JSB EXACT and try 4.50. 4.51 and 4.52mm headsizes. Either this will prove one size that's perfect and I'll stick with it forever more. Or I can write off ever considering using these for good!

Try the Mags too, Simon. I've had very good results with them in 177 with HWs.

As Skot's said the JSB's are well worth a try. You've seen how well they work through my 52.

Give me a shout before the weekend, I may be in Castleford on Friday night so I'll only be five minutes drive from your place.

Righty-o mate!

Well, I went to Red Beck today for ammo. I bought a tin of H&N FTT 4.50 as these are very accurate from the rifle. Also a tin of Bisley Magnum 4.50. And...

A little Hawke HD 3-9X40 IR AO scope with mil-dot reticle. £55 new and down from £84-99!

Had a range session this afternoon with it and it's proving a superb little scope. Consistent, 5p sized groups at 35 metres and soon I had stones picked-off at all ranges. Exactly what I want as a hunting optic for the HW97K. Can't knock it!

Don't knock yourself down Skot. You look a pretty bloody sound shooter to me mate. I'd not take you on lightly here in a competition, laddie. There are some awesome-skilled, top lads on this forum mate. I reckon you are one among them!

I don't do bad at 35-45 yds, but im nowhere near the level that some of the guys on here are at. especially when it comes to longer ranges.
