Lost A Permision Last Season.

Recommended Posts

Season before last I got a small permission just a little field. I was told by the owner go up there whenever you want. So I had a couple of fairly productive sessions and after that I popped down there a few times to keep emptying the warrens so I could keep the permission.

Anyway beginning of last season I speak to the prick and he says hes got another ferreter coming along because I only went a couple of times (he seemed to think it should be done weekly or something). I must of ferreted the same warrens about 6 times but lost it anyway I was gutted. Very soon after this I got perm on a huge piece of land and I don't think I need to look for to much more but this pissed me off.

Anyone else ever lost land?

So you went there six times all season? Personally, if I was the landowner and there were rabbits on the land, I'd also give the permission to someone who was going to go more often.

With loads of people trying to get permission these days, you can't get permission, hardly ever go and then moan when it's given to someone else!

Just my take on it!

As I said it was a small field. It only had a few warrens on it and in the end I was going up there for very few rabbits because Id already taken the bulk of them in the first 2 sessions. The following 4 sessions I was taking very few rabbits so Id say I did a pretty good job of clearing the rabbits. I didn't only go up there 6 times all season because I didn't get this permission until Around December. So how many times should I have ferreted the same empty warrens between early December and late February?

How many times a season do you ferret the same warrens?

At least once a week with all my ferrets, most of the time I'll also have a wander once or twice a week with the dog and a single ferret in the rucksack just to see if I can get the odd positive mark/bolt for the dog.

If you're saying the warrens were empty on your permission, the farmer might be seeing rabbits that have wandered onto his land from neighbouring farms. Might have been worth giving them a knock?

Whatever the reason you lost yours, it's the farmers land so he can let whoever he wants on. It's a bummer but it's just one of those things, all you can do is move on and get knocking for more.

Sounds like you don't gave much experience a tiny field 6 times in a season say he only goes out once a week because of WORK ,

It's a bummer pie eater but the small land owners see one rabbit and there's suddenly millions , look there's loads loads of what ??? Holes , : ) caught six rabbits today mrs , reply is that it , that's all there is , reply there can't be there's millions ,

By the way, if the permission and warrens were as empty as you say, why are you arsed that you lost it?

Im not that bothered now because Ive got a lot more land since but at the time I was just getting back to ferreting after 5 or 6 years out and I was trying to build up a bit of land. Im sorry but I think that ferreting the same warrens 6 times between December and February should be enough.

The neighboring land is packed with rabbits and they have a ferreter so I couldn't get permission but It never seems to get done.

I know I did a good job clearing the rabbits from this site which is why it bugged me the permission being given to someone else I don't think that's unreasonable. You realy ferret the same warrens once or twice a week?

Cheers mate. The annoying thing is this landowner passed my phone number on to someone else and recommended me to them so I thought all was good. How many times a season do you ferret a warren?

the local ones yeah, I'm out with the dog every day so if I'm not ferreting or lamping I'll just wander round the permission with the dog and have a ferret in my ruck sack....so it's not what I'd call a ferreting session, just bolting them if the dog chases one to ground or gives a positive mark.

whatever you reckon pal!

from a landowners point of view, the reasons why someone doesn't get out very often is irrelevant......if you have rabbits on the land, and one guy can only get out six times (because of work or whatever), and another guy can get out twice a week then it's a no brainer. However, if he's done a good job clearing it and still lost the permission then it's a bit harsh, but like I say there's not a lot you can do about it. If anything, it sounds like he's done the lad a favour because he now doesn't have the irritation of having to ferret an empty permission.

Maybe its just me but to ferret the same warrens once or twice a week seems way over the top.

I try to get round once a month but some times its every six weeks but thats no the same burrows its other pieces of the farms as long as the farmers see me and have a bleather they dont bother .

If it was only a small field and there was nothing there i would of talked to the owner and offered to fill them in after i ferreted it so they could see there was nothing there and any that where opened up you could just have ferreted them

To be honest this is the way of the world

I had worked a pemission for 11 years went there

just before the start of the 12 th season and the

farmer had given it to some one else found out it was

to a son of his friend who had just started out

Had a phone call half way through the season

because there were so many rabbits about and the

kid had packed it in (By that time I was too busy to go do it)

Live with it and move on as the saying goes shit happens!!

Permissions come and go its the nature of this game , i dont worry about it as i think if your doing a good job there wont be much about anyway so you need at least one new permission each year
