Iwtf & Nargc At Shanes Castle

Recommended Posts

We are delighted to report that amongst the many organisations exhibiting at Shanes Castle Fair on the 29th & 30th June will be two exhibiting for the first time :- The IRISH WORKING TERRIER FEDERATION and The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REGIONAL GAME COUNCILS ( NARGC).

Both will be exhibiting with other country sports and angling organisations in the 'Woodcock & Salmon ' Pavilion please do drop in to speak to them.

Irish Working Terrier Federation at the Fair

This is the first year that the Irish Working Terrier Federation (I.W.T.F.) will be fully involved at Shanes Castle and Birr Castle, giving the I.W.T.F. the ideal opportunity to display their commitment to their work while engaging with all those in attendance at this prestigious country sports event.

"Our goal is of a vital, working and thriving working terrier service for the benefit of the farming and mainstream hunting communities. Through campaigning, lobbying, publicity and education we influence legislation and public policy that impacts on the working terrier world and rural activities. The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle and Birr Castle are the perfect forum for the I.W.T.F. to meet and engage with our members and supporters".

NARGC at Shane’s Castle

NARGC is delighted with the opportunity to pay a fraternal visit to the Irish Game Fair & Flavour Fine Food Festival at Shane’s Castle, Antrim on June 29th & 30th 2013. We very much look forward to meeting our fellow fieldsports enthusiasts and supporters from Northern Ireland with who we hope to develop bonds of friendship which in the future could benefit fieldsporst throughout the island of Ireland and make cross-border conservation relevant and practical.

All the most Senior Officers of NARGC, including Chairman Sean Doris, National Director Des Crofton, Compensation Fund Administrator Chris Gavican, National Treasurer Simon Devereux and many more, will be on the stand to meet and greet our Northern colleagues and exchange information over a glass of wine.. Northern hunters will learn of the benefits of NARGC membership, of our Compensation Fund, how we lobby, how we represent and fight for the rights of our members etc.

Our premier Red Grouse conservation project at Boleybrack Mountain in County Leitrim, considered by the Irish Government to be the benchmark against which all similar Grouse projects should be measured will be on show. Project Manager Eamonn Brennan and Grouse Keeper, John Carslake will be on hand to explain the management prescription and to offer advice on best practice.

The formation of the very first cross border rivers trust has been greeted with an enthusiastic response by many within the country sports and recreational world. It is called the “River Blackwater Catchment Trust” and has as its focus the river Blackwater which rises in Monaghan and flows through Tyrone and Armagh on its way to Lough Neagh. Not only is the new trust unique in being the first cross border venture in this new field of conservation management but it is also breaking new ground in that it truly represents the interests and aspirations of the wider catchment users. The trust has sought representation from those that ramble the mountains of Sliabh Beagh , the various angling clubs, bird watchers , huntsmen, farmers and the shooting community represented by Monaghan Regional Game Council whose very own Dan Curley has been elected Chair of the new Trust. Its early days but the RBCT hopes that by working with and talking to all the users of the river corridor and its hinterland then they can educate, inform and support schemes and attitudes that will protect this beautiful area for many generations to come. Representatives of the Trust will be in the NARGC stand to provide information on trust and what it will mean to stakeholders.

The NARGC merchandise shop with Margaret Neile and Ernie Beck will feature on the NARGC stand where NARGC merchandise can be purchased at quite considerable discounts.

Jimmy Tyrrell will be on the stand to demonstrate his fly tying skills and offer some of his creations for sale to the fishing enthusiasts.

All children visiting the NARGC stand will be given a small gift.

Great to see these two organisations being given and taking up the opportunity to put across the good work they do on behalf of all fieldsports.

I would like to ask all terrier owners regardless if used for pest control, showing ,or simply as a pet call in and have a chat with these folk, they are putting in an enormous effort on our behalf, trying to ensure our terriers keep there status.

If the organisers of these great game fairs can give there support which is greatly appreciated, surely we can give ours.

Yours in sport.sam

Albert, Sam,

This provides a great opportunity to get the I.W.T.F's message out to the wider sporting community.

Hopefully the weather is good on the day and the public get a chance to see country sports thriving as they should.

Ger.

I am genuinely delighted to see one of the most representative selection of Irish country sports, angling and real conservation organisations brought together at one public venue to demonstrate the strength of support for country sports, the professionalism of the representative organisations and the important envronmental conservation role they play. This truly looks like fulfilling my personal ambition of providing a real national All Ireland Forum and meeting place for country sports people and an unrivalled PR opportunity for country sports and conservation. I am truly humbled by the support that these organisations have chosen to display for our event.

is the same catering company going to be there.

What catering has to do with the NARGC and IWTF coming to Shanes mystifies me but we have not just one with several caterers at the fair ranging from sit down meals to sausage and chips and a lot in between - these vary on a year to year basis. All are assessed under the NI Food & Hygeine system and all in the last two years got good ratings! Thats the health and hygeine out of the way - then it comes down to choice - as I say you have a fairly extensive choice of what you buy/eat or you can choose to bring your own 'piece' or browse the free samples in the Flavour Fine Food Pavilion.
