arcticgun 4,548
lost my mother to it when I was a kid, my missus cousin died of it seven years ago yesterday, I spoke to her 13 year old daughter yesterday and it broke my heart, took me way back it did, the poor wee thing, she was a lot younger than me as well, she a credit to her mother, I think most of us have been affected by this dreaded curse one way or another, if I could do one thing for this world I would rid it of that, Your Old Man will look down on you today and be so proud of you mate, the fact you posting about it says it all, your daughter will benefit from what he gave you and what you will pass onto her and any other children you may have, that in itself made his life worth living Edited June 2, 2013 by arcticgun
stewie 3,387
Lurch; I have the ability to read, by choice, any individual post you make. I read that one and a few others. Hell, I even 'Liked' one of yours! Okay, mate. No hard feelings. I'm off to UnBlock you now. And, yes, Andrew Vachss IS the f**king Daddy! I can't reccomend him too strongly. Try tracking back, through that link, and having a look at some of the other short stories he has on there. Some seriously good shit! I have the vast majority of his books here, on a dedicated shelf. The " Burke " novels are wanking material! you earned one back there mate........... glad we can put it behind us.........ill need to to find the next up and coming stag with the biggest head gear on here now to rut with.......... also its pretty ironic that after all that and then this thread, that the dog in question from the first moment we had our words is called angel........makes you wonder......... NEWKID 29,103
There won't be many that haven't been affected by this cruel disease in one way or another, it's killed the man who taught me to fish and hunt from the age of 6, he was there from my birth until he died 3 years ago... He wasn't my dad, but he acted like my dad all of the time he was a top top man.. It took him at 57... Another of my close friends and an old work colleague who was a top fisherman was taken at 46 leaving 2 young teens and his wife behind... The disease is the curse of our times... As Stewie touched on the charity match I wanted to donate all the money to a cancer based charity because of the reasons on this thread, I'm trying to find the right one as I want it to be for all of us not my local hospice... Maybe cancer research is not the right one though? Any suggestions to the right charity would be welcomed... And as said any lads that want to come down for a fish/ yap or beer after are welcome... Keep your chin up lads, easy to say I know but it's all you can do at times..

arcticgun 4,548
Round our way the Butterwick Hospice does amazing work for people afflicted by this horrendous affliction, they provide respite and allow persons whom care at home for family members essential rest so they can continue, the kids I look after at work have done several charity events to raise money for them, they ask so little and give so much and are worthy every penny the have raised for them, its a hard world out their at times, but then you look at the like of Butterwick, Macmillan, Marie Curie and it warms your heart there are some truly amazing selfless people out there and they are a credit to themselves Edited June 3, 2013 by arcticgun
