Moira Game Fair Dog Show And Simulated Racing Last Saturday 25Th And 26Th May 13

Recommended Posts

Well recognised by Ireland's Country Sports Community as a great event for Irish Country Sports, the National Countrysports Fair at Moira is widely acclaimed for the quality of its stands, their displays and demonstrations, and indeed lived up very much to their name again this year. From 10 O Clock Saturday morning the crowds rolled up in force both for the Game Fair,

Dog Show and Simulated Racing. The Lurcher, Terrier, and Whippet folk arrived with their Families and dogs in tow, and very soon the National Countrysports Fair of 2013 was under way. The weather displayed what a good summers day should be, and this no doubt brought the crowds out to full capacity. The children were bouncing about enjoying themselves in the mid-day sun, while the older folk were stretching themselves out on the grass taking in the rays.

Before the dog show began, with dogs at heal, we spent over an hour in the show itself. There was a magical atmosphere in there. We visited Charlie Keenans stand, and had a chat with Charlie. Then onto the Barbour stand. Unfortunately I could get nothing in my size. Next we visited “The Outdoor Field and Sports Shop”, Portadown, and had a chat with Richard. We carried on, picked up quite a few wee bargains, and soaked up all the fun of the fair along the way. Time was not on our side, so we headed back down to the Lurcher,Terrier and Whippet Dog show, run by the fantastic Gilford Lurcher, and Terrier Club. The show began at approximately 1.OO oclock.

Here are the Racing Results, some random showing results and the Overall Results.

The dog show would not of been such an overwhelming success if it had not of been for these too people. Ian Davidson, Justin Hill and their hard working committe and Game Fair Directors. Ian and Justin worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this dog show the showcase it was .Well done Ian, Justin, committe and Game Fair Directors, your hard work paid off on the day. Everyone enjoyed themselves, some more than others , and without you Ian and Justin, this would not of been possible. Again ,many many thanks Ian and Justin on behalf of all the Canine folk and their families who attended the show, for a brilliant day out at your Dog show and Game Fair, and I am already looking forward to next year.

John mc stays champion whippet silver, is it a working whippet

thank you

Yes and has the marks to prove it, All our Whippets are working Whippets. Silver is a vetern of 7years old, has had one litter of 8 pups all sold in Northern Ireland, and hunting. If you dont beleive me they are working dogs ring the vets in Portadown, and ask how many times he has stitched her and the rest of them. She is not the best hunter of all 6 as she is getting older now.. Sandy is the the best. When she starts she finishes. She means business. She has left me and John with stitches, never mind herself. Goldie would be second best.and Sasha is fast. The young whippets are good learners too. Hope this answers your question. By the way,we also have 114 acres of land of which 16 acres of a wood to hunt on in

Monaghan.and all our own. We are getting old now, our days are numbered at the hunting lark,Another 2 winters will probably do us.We are in Gods waiting room. But sure then we can turn our Whippets into show ponies and build up the Trophys to give us something to shine up when we are in the Nursing home. I t will keep us from fighting with each other.

If you need any further information do not hestitate to contact me on this site. I will be only to willing to help you out if I can.

Thank you for your Interest.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
